I obviously googled and know the ranged for my heart rate, but I just wanted some further guidance. I am 29 years old and 189lbs. I just finished the first month of Insanity. I watch my heart rate through out and go between 115 to 186 was my highest. What should I look out for as my max need to take a break?

Shouldn't my heart rate be going down at some point? My resting heart rate is 50-62.

I'm curious about this too. I'm 30, my max HR is around 185 during the hardest parts but gets down to around 118 during the stretch (it's recovering a lot faster since the beginning when I used to get down only to around 150 during the stretch), my resting HR is also around 52. I weigh 196 currently. I looked up a few different charts but they all say different things.

ETA: During the 30 second water breaks it only gets down to around 165-170, it's not a long enough break to get down any lower IMO!

Target & resting HR is not a concrete number. Everyone is different, some can work at 90% load while others only 80%. The heart is a muscle and as it gets stronger (and as the body weight drops) it can do the job with less effort. So yes, you can expect a lower resting HR.

BTW I doubt you are measuring your resting HR right if you can only give a range of 50 - 62 bpm. Mine is pretty steady (within 3 bpm) unless Im sick or have been over training. When I have a higher then normal resting HR I generally call it a rest day.

    Good article at Mayo Clinic
