Starting over?

I am feeling very frustrated with myself lately. In December I had reached a wonderful low, and for some reason immediately gained a bit back; and have been on the rise since. I think that weight gain put me into a depression, and I'm still struggling a bit with that. I'm having such a hard time getting back into my good habits and breaking my bad ones again. I just looked back at my weight for the last year, and I'm right back where I was last summer :(. After being so very close to my goal and I was almost at a healthy weight for the first time in 12 years, I just want to scream! Has anyone else been through this and come out of the tunnel and seen the light? I'm not looking for easy answers or sympathy. I know what I'm doing wrong and I'm just struggling to set it right. I am just hoping for some extra motivation from anyone who understands and who's maybe overcome similar issues.

YES! I would put myself in the "starting over" category too.

A couple of years ago I worked really hard and lost 20 pounds. I felt so much better about myself and vowed I would never let me to my "heavy" weight again. But....I did with an extra 5-10 pounds on top of that. I just "started" over again on Monday. Of course we know what we need to do, but actually doing it (again) is hard. Whatever your personal reason may be, you need to choose it for yourself.

    Good luck!

Yes, I know what you're going through. You ask what you could possibly be doing wrong.... Well first a couple of questions:

HOW did you lose the weight to begin with? (Be honest) Was it extreme calorie restriction? Was it super "low carb" or any other type of restriction diet?

I ask this because many times when people lose a ton of weight doing a certain type of diet (i.e. Low Carb, high protein, etc.) for any length of time... they end up gaining the weight right back as soon as they stop following that lifestyle.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with these types of diets, however if you are eating very low calories on the diet or restricting yourself from a particular nutrient for too long... the minute the diet is "over"... people have a tendency to go buck wild on the one nutrient they've been restricting which can result in a huge weight gain overnight! (i.e. Low Carber who suddenly decides to go to the Italian, Mexican, or Chinese buffet and go crazy on rices, pastas, beans, tortillas, and of course dessert)

When people see that weight gain suddenly (even though most of it is water weight and waste that hasn't left the body)... it could cause them to become depressed... which for some result in emotional eating..... and thus the spiral effect of gaining the weight back. :(

    Been there, done that..

I think starting over is something we do with every decision. Whether we go to the gym for a two hour workout or choosing a salad instead of fries for a side item. Even our little choices can add up to big successes like drinking only water with a meal. Of course, not every choice we make is going to be perfect, but if 80-90% of them are, then over time we will succeed.

The only suggestion I have is to maybe pick one habit to work on at a time.

    Good luck!! :flowerforyou:
