A Size I Can't Wrap My Head Around

Ok...well, this one is in a rant in a way, but still considered something that demotivates me a little. So, I am starting a new job on Tuesday, but still want to do my acting on weekends, when I am off work. However, I saw one call today that just kind of made me wonder if I can even make it in acting.
Basically, there is a need for a stand-in for a lead in a film (can't disclose too much info due to legal reasons) and I am the right height, but the weight is a little out-of-range, even for a healthy person of my height. The height is 5'7 1/2, but sometimes 5'8 is acceptable, as long as it's not too off. The weight is 128.
Well, I have seen plenty of calls for this size (and smaller) and for someone of that height, the recommended weight is 135-ish. My problem is that I know I will NEVER be that small and I wonder if it is even possible to make a living in acting at a slightly larger weight.
My current goal is around 140-145, but will probably end up shooting for the 135, if my body will even go that small lol. I just really don't see myself getting down to that size 0-4 range and REALLY don't know if I can fit that "industry standard". After being turned down for work in the past and not being "qualified" to even submit to some acting jobs due to my size, I just wonder if I should just stick with my regular "day job" and just forget acting for a while.

If you want to work in film...yeah, you're probably not going to do it at your current goal. You know what the industry is like, and even so-called "curvy" actors are on the thin side compared to the general population. There are certainly exceptions, but on the whole...it's a visual industry and there's a certain aesthetic which is popular and accepted right now, and if you don't fit into it, it's not hard to find someone who does.
None of this applies, of course, if you want to act as a hobby. But as a job? A certain physical ideal is the standard right now.
That said, actors lie about their weight all the time, and if you look very thin and toned, your actual weight isn't really the point. Measurements, though, and fitting into sample sizes are, so that's something to focus on as well if you want to pursue it.0 -
I dunno, I think some doors might be closed to you because of those body standards, but not all. There's no point in giving up because all the requests for lead standins ask for a certain weight. Look for other opportunities. There still are different body sizes in the acting world - more in theatre I guess, and fewer roles that may be available but still. I'd say not to give up, but to be more creative in your acting opportunities search.
Good luck!0 -
Don't give up on your dreams. And as far as the industry goes with weight, they actually have a lot of plus size actors that are amazing and act daily. Just focus on you and your goals. Don't compare yourself to another weight. Someone will hire you for you. Just keep faith and stop focusing on things that will discourage you. I think your beautiful. Don't let people tell you that doors are closing on you because your not a certain weight. Just keep going forward. You will get there.0
