Mud Run!!! - Should I tape my shoes on?

My husband and I and some friends are doing a 5K mud run in a couple of weeks and one of my friends asked me if we should duct tape our shoes on so we don't lose them in the mud. I have never done one before but have heard of people doing that. But does that make it hard to run?? lol Opinions from those who have done a mud run :flowerforyou:

I made sure my laces were tight and double knotted and I had no problems whatsoever with my shoes during my mud run. I hadn't heard of the taping thing until I saw people doing it when getting prepped.0

I didn't tape my shoes, because I figured that I needed the tread, rather than smooth bottoms from the tape. I double tied my shoes and never had any problems. I would recommend wearing shoes with good tread - it really helped climbing out of some of the obstacles. Good luck, they are so much fun!0

Ditto! I almost lost mine once but ended up okay. Tie them tighter and go for it! Have fun!0

I had heard of people doing that, too. I just tied mine on tight and I was fine.0

I just ran my first one last month and it was so much fun! I just double knotted my shoelaces and tied them a little bit tighter than usual and didn't have any problems with them. Good luck!0

I've done 2 and taped both times. The first one I did was last July through lots of streams and mud and actual mud/water up to my neck at one obstacle. I would have definitely lost a shoe in that one. The second one I did was a couple of weeks ago and there weren't nearly the same kind of obstacles as my first one. I think it depends on how much mud is in your mud run. I taped around the bottom and around the laces and semi-loosely around my ankle. I did not have any mobility problems whatsoever.
Good luck and enjoy!0 -
I just di one yesterday. I didn't tape my shoes. You will be fine as long as they are snug and tied tight!!0

Don't tape them because it makes it slippery0

I didn't tape them and my Tough Mudder was in Florida with 1/3 of the course in swamps. My feet were getting suctioned into the mud when the water was up to our hips and my shoes were fine without tape. Have fun!0
