Hypothyroidism

I'm on synthroid 100mcg for about a year now but there is so so much I don't know about hypothyroidism so if anyone else out there deals with this and is looking for friends, add me and we can figure it out together

Hi Jess! I have hypothyroidism as well and use Synthroid. I'm on 125 mcg (have moved up from 88mcg over the past few years).

Hi! I just sent you a friend request. I was born without a thyroid so I am very familiar with hypothyroidism. I am currently on 150mcg of levothyroxine and 5mcg of cytomel 3 times a day. Cytomel (t3) made a huge difference in how I feel. I have only been on it for about 6 years but I wish I would have added it when I was a kid. Feel free to ask me any questions...if I don't know the answer I probably have a book/resources with answers. Do you have an endocrinologist? I would highly suggest finding one, it makes a HUGE difference in your treatment/health.

Hello! I have Hashimoto's and I was on Levoxyl 112 until the recent shortage. Now on Synthroid. I'll add you! I am always looking to motivate/support.

Late last year my doc told me I had hypo. He put me on Synthroid, but my hair started falling out in huge clumps. Freaked me out. Problem with me is the Hypo "comes and goes". When it starts working again, then the Synthroid is too much and I lose my hair.

So I stopped taking it. I have to keep getting blood tests so we can figure out how intermittent the problem really is (and if it's getting worse). I'm afraid I'm not much help, but figured you might get a little comfort in knowing that a lot of people here have thyroid issues.

Sometimes my weight loss is good, other times I screech to a halt. But I've seen people here that have lost tremendous amounts of weight even with a bum thyroid. Most of them say that it's an uphill battle, but it CAN be done! I found that reassuring.

I lost my thyroid years ago to thyroid cancer (1970). One of the things I do not eat soy and try my hardest to not eat anything with soy - yes it is very hard because about 99% of food seem to have some kind of soy. I also do not eat tofu. Use to eat both and had bad reaction, did my research and stopped. Also since I have fibroids, I find that soy affects them greatly. I am now feeling a lot better and my fibroids have decreased especially since I have lost 18 lbs. Anything that is white affects fibroids. Exercise is great for reducing the effects of fibroids. .

I really watch what I eat and try to eat as healthy as possible. I also do not eat any fresh water fish (tilapia, blue fish, croaker etc). I get sickening feeling from eating them.

@abenardini: I am lucky enough have an endocrinologist that I work with. I actually got my lab results over the weekend. My TSH level right now is around 4 (it was 9 in January) I'm taking synthroid 100mcg but I will ask my doc about Cytomel because he has never mentioned it before.

@Willowana: My hair fell out when I started synthroid too. I was terrified, It came out by the handful when I washed my hair but it eventually stopped.. or at least slowed down.

@socajam: I had heard about the issue with soy too and once I stopped eating it I realized all of the stomach problems I had stemmed from that! I had so many tests done and went to so many doctors and all it turned out to be was the damn soy!
