cooking with vegetable oil

I'm curious about how to add something to my food diary. Today i fried (i know..bad) a lightly breaded Haddock fillet using pure vegetable oil (1/2 cup) in the pan. Now, do i add the 1/2 cup as part of my food intake for the day or what? I'm confused..And you can bet the next time i won't be using Pure vegetable oil..

    Yes, you would add that to your diary.

    measure the amt of oil that was left in the pan and subtract it from the amt you originally added. then you will know how much oil was soaked up while cooking your food. dont add the whole half cup if you didnt use it all you would be cheating yourself out of extra cals.

    Measure the amount of oil remaining in the pan and subtract it from the half cup. That tells you how much of the oil you consumed (minus possibly a bit more if you drained the fillet on paper.)

    Thank you for your replies. It didn't even cross my mind to measure the remaining oil. I got ripped off today..lol You can bet i will be more careful next time and definitely use a better cooking oil. Thanks again.

    Good thing you decided not to deep fry your fish.........mega calories. :tongue: Anyway, with shallow frying or sauteing you'd be lucky to absorb 1 tbsp and probably 1/2 that amount. All vegetable oil is pure in the respect that all oils are 100% oil.

    Except omega 3's shouldn't be heated.....not so smart, but it's just marketing taking advantage of it's popularity.
