I did quite well today. For lunch I had pepper, tomato and a little spring onion with tuna- call that 2 servings. For dinner I made a chicken dish with a lot of cabbage, broccoli and peas in it. So thats 3, or 5 in total.

That would be a maximum for me. I have a bowel disease which means I can't eat too much insoluble fibre. For fruit one portion a day is really enough for me- today I've had about 3 grapes.

Some days I only have maybe 2 servings. My servings of green veg are always large- like half a head of broccoli.

how big are your servings (for everyone who posted on this thread). My 5 servings are a cup each. What is a typical "serving"

I think the current recommendation if you are using the U.S. government recommendations is 4.5 cups total of fruits and veggies. For leafy greens you need a 2:1 ratio to fulfill the requirements so servings can be 1-2 cups depending on the vegetable and the preparation.

    Vegetables and Fruit

125 mL (½ cup) fresh, frozen or canned
vegetable or fruit or 100% juice
250 mL (1 cup) leafy raw vegetables or
    salad
    1 piece of fruit

Mixed veg, carrots, peas, corn, the starchier veggies 1/2 cup per serving. Green leafy things 1 cup, green beans 1 cup. I don't know what spaghetti squash should be, probably 1/2 cup but I eat 1 cup of that at a time.

    This is interesting.
In a 12-week study 40 fair ladies between the ages of 20 and 40 were randomly split into two groups. Each group was given approximately two tablespoons of either soybean oil or coconut oil and instructed to follow a reduced calorie eating plan and to walk 50 minutes a day.

At the end of the study the "coconut oil group" increased their good cholesterol, reduced their bad cholesterol and significantly reduced their waist circumference (stomach fat).

The soybean oil group basically had the exact OPPOSITE results on their cholesterol levels and they didn't lose any stomach fat.

Verily, the truth has now been bestowed upon thine ears!

I pray you, don't be fooled by clever advertising. Organic sources of fat like coconut oil and butter (from grass fed cows) are full of nutrition and are MUCH better for you than processed vegetable oils that cause inflammation in your body.

exactly....our naturopathic doctor told us coconut oil is extremely liver cleansing and SO good for us AND olive oil AND grass fed butter. My nutritionist acts like butter and coconut oil are evil. So weird.

You guys are making me laugh with the tomato thing....haha!
Okay so 8-10 is too much. I think I would be FAR to gassy.
How on earth would somebody think coconut water has too much sugar? it tastes salty.....like I am drinking sweat.
she told me to use water in my breakfast shakes (I have a protein powder breakfast shake) instead of coconut water
She seems to have something against coconuts...she also says coconut oil is bad because it is saturated fat but everyone else I know (including our naturopath) thinks coconut oil is the best thing since sliced bread....go figure?
Don't it make you mad when people lump all the fats together there are good fats and bad fats. Coconut and olive oil are good fats as are nuts and avocados.

My nutritionist says 2 a day[that includes juices}, I noticed some on this post are counting vegetables as well, I always thought you counted them separate.
