Have you suffered from the dreaded PLATEAU

Well if you're got a lot of weight to lose, then you will probably know what I'm talking about. After about 20/25 pounds lost the bodies weight loss just stops, even though your sticking to your diet. This is where people give up, as they think they are not dieting correctly, or just give in as its to difficult.

NO don't stop dieting.....its the body adjusting to your new calorie intake, and it adjusts to maintain itself. It thinks your starving it, so it slows everything down to preserve fat, that's when you start to feel tired too. The answer ISN'T to reduce your food any lower, but to change your eating habits split your meals instead of having 3 have 5 or even 6, but very small portions. Change your exercise routine, instead of doing all of your exercise at the same time, break it up into 2 different times in the day, do a different exercise, as we all tend to stick to the same routines, the body has got used to it. change it. If you change your routines each time you hit a plateau your body loss should start up again. If you eat less, your body will then fight you even more, and slow your body down even slower, so it won't work, believe me. The above has helped me.

Have you hit a plateau, if so, what did you do to over come it.

I hope you're right because I am getting a little depressed.....frustrated. I'm not quitting; I thought maybe I just need to up my exercise?

Thanks for that sandt. I got to 20lbs after 3 months on 5:2 and have lost consistently UNTIL 2 weeks ago when I put on a pound, the next week I lost 2 lbs and then. yesterday I put on 2 lbs. I fear this is the dreaded plateau so I've started a weights program in the gym and did an extra Pilates class in the day when I usually do it at night. And then an extra Bushwalking this week. I'm going to keep on trying. It's starting to be like winter here. It was minus 2 here this morning and my husband lovingly suggested we are doing what bears do put on a layer of fat to keep us going till spring. OH NO I SAID I'M NOT READY TO BE BARE!!!!

My story is a little different, but a plateau nonetheless. I lost 166lbs after a year with weight loss surgery eating well, exercising...and then it just stopped. Just like that. It was really a harsh reality after the weight came off rather steadily up to that point. I had to push on hard to lose the next 8lbs putting me at a loss of 174lbs total after 1.5 years. My weight stopped there for a YEAR (a whole year...ugh) until I put back on another 5lbs when I found myself just getting aggravated with the stall. It isn't until now (over 2.5 years after my surgery) that i am finally resetting and seeing progress on my scale again. No matter what your journey is, plateaus and stalls are tough and can be really mentally hard. I would just say to hang in there, soldier on and just keep fighting until you break out of it. It's hard, I completely understand!

Never really hit a plateau that wasn't by choice but I frequently change my routine. With 8 lbs to go I have set my cals to maintenance and have begun focusing on strength training and toning :)

    I haven't hit a plateau as such - BUT:

you need to watch for changes in your body, sometimes your body can change a lot without much movement on the scale.

and I'm trying intermittent fasting (16 hour fast 8 hour eating window - all your calories in those 8 hours) to try to speed up the weightloss again without dropping my calories and hopefully maintaining my lean mass as much as possible. supposedly.

everyone will tell you to change your routine in some way, eat maintenance for a week, have a cheat day, etc etc etc.

you just have to choose which one to do.
