It strikes me that for a natural trainer, it wouldn't be a sustainable routine for more than a couple of weeks without suffering from overtraining.

Well apparently you only do it for about 4-6 weeks at a time anyways

If you're an experienced trainer, it might be worth a go, otherwise I would look towards other routines.

Why a program based around a training regime that was adopted for assisted high level athletes, is pushed as a good idea for natural genetically average people puzzles me.

I think there's no harm in utilising some 10x10 protocols for fun here and there but unless you're already an advanced bodybuilder or physique athlete it might just be unnecessary.

The problem is if you're not already fairly strong, then 50-60% of your 1RM isn't much.

What are your goals? I do not think that GVT is a good option if you're trying to lose weight or cut. Also, if your goals are strength then GVT is probably not a good option either.

Well I'm tryin to bulk at the mo and been lifting for quite a while. Just thought it would b interesting to try something different for a few weeks

As tomg33 said, I might just chuck in a few 10x10 here and there to shake things up but won't do it fully until I'm a lot stronger

    Thanks

What do you classify as "quite a while?"

No harm in trying it. If you eat at a surplus you will probably gain some muscle. Some people gain strength as well but a majority don't on this program. I tried it and it wasn't my favorite. I get easily bored doing 10 sets of the same exercise although there is a variation called GVT 2000 which you will do multiple exercises adding up to 10 sets for 10 reps, e.g, flatbench 3x10, incline bench 4x10 and dips 3x10

You could probably combine something like 5/3/1 with GVT for accessory movements. Yeah, GVT is not really a strength program. I did it years ago and I felt weaker when I stopped.
