Has anyone read this series - New Rules of Lifting for Women/for Abs? Would you recommend it as a resource for people who want to begin more heavy lifting? I currently do weight training with a private trainer, but it's pretty light stuff, and I'm bored and looking to step it up :)

Here is my long and slightly confusing answer:)

I have been reading starting strength and NROLFW.

I love SS, but am not that excited about NROLFW. I use both. NROLFW is good for when I want to quickly review a lift ( I have bookmarked three pages that I keep looking at).
Starting Strength goes into great detail and I need to sit and take the time to read it when I do.

Some people think the routine in NROLFW is a bit complicated. I don't think I will ever do the NROLFW program. It was worth the $10 I payed for it through Amazon, just for a read. ( I also got annoyed at first with what sounded condescending to me... But that's just me, and I got over it!)

Sorry , just re-read your question, I don't have the book that says "for abs" on it.

    Hi,
I bought it and am considering trying it out. One thing I will share with you is that to increase muscle definition the book recommends to lift heavier...lift like a man. The workout is a bit confusing so I am trying to figure that part out. It is interesting though. I haven't read the abs version though.

    Good Luck!

NROLFW is pretty awesome (my wife does it)...put away the barbie weights and step away from the treadmill and do your body some awesomeness. I love the looks my wife gets from the other ladies in the gym all huddled up in the machine area or doing squats with 5 Lb dumbbells while my wife is pushing up 130 Lbs reps on low bar squat...they all look sort of fascinated, confused, and concerned all at once. Meanwhile, she is looking more awesome than ever and I have seen nary any change with most of those other women.

I am on Stage 6 of New Rules of Lifting for Women. It's terrific! There's a whole group of us women who post regularly in this group http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/102-new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-nrol4w

It's made me stronger without at doubt. It's not just a reference book, it's a lifting program! Try it!! I do not have NROL for Abs, I have NROL Supercharged. It too isn't just a reference book, it's a program and I will do that program too, though not sure when I will start.

Come on over to the group and join the daily chat thread. Ask your question there and see what responses you get!

Great encouragement! And go you, for picking an apparently awesome wife :D
