I would love to. Not to sound conceited, but I never have. I think that I am threatened by men who are "considerably more" intelligent/very attractive/financially successful and don't pursue them or think they are going to pass me up after a week of dating for someone better. Lame!0
-
yeah, good luck with that!0

Absolutely, I would, it would be a fabulous learning experience.0

Not unless they would date someone considerably less intelligent0

It depends on what they are more intelligent in first,we all are intelligent just in different areas my brother for instance Phd in pure math and my mother Masters in English studying for her Phd as well and me my skills are being good at baking. my husband is awesome at teaching going to be an elementary school teacher and so on so Id imagine any of my friends or husband is smarter than me in someway or another.Id however would not be as intrested to talk to anyone with nothing intelligent to say .0

Intellect comes in different forms. I have to have someone I can have a conversation with. I have dated guys and said NO WAY, and moved on when it became apparent that there was a significant intellectual imbalance. That being said, a piece of paper (a degree) does NOT certify intelligence. Some of the smartest people I know don't have degrees. They teach me things. Sometimes they look at me and are like "you've switched the nerd switch" or they zone out when I start talking about clouds or wetlands, and there are times they talk about things I have to ask them to further explain. There are people, who, when they first meet me are intimidated by my degrees until they get to know me. And there are people that get to know me and then find out I have advanced degrees and are like, WTF, this girl?? No way!! The holier-than-thou attitude doesn't fly with me, but I don't surround myself with those people. I surround myself with people who can match me wit-for-wit, no matter what their educational attainments.0

I'm just not sure there is someone out there more intelligent than me .... !

I think you mean "More intelligent than I".
BOOM!

Only to a certain degree. I hate being condescended to. It's rude.
Condescension is subjective, in my opinion. I think we ALL have contributions to make. It isn't so much what you have to contribute, as how it is conveyed. For example, my dad would beat his fists on the kitchen table while trying to help me with my algebra homework, chanting "WHY DON'T YOU GET THIS???? IT IS SOOOO EASY!" My college professor, God bless him, would take one look at my work, and ask "Tell me where you got lost, so I can lead you through it".
Two different approaches to teaching new skills and information. One caused anxiety, the other cured it.
Well the first response is condescending, the other really isn't.
Yes, and I was sharing an example of how new information can be taught in two separate ways, with two separate end results. My dad was condescending, my professor was not. They were both teaching me algebra.
So, if someone is trying to teach new material to someone, they need to understand that the tone and delivery has a lot to do with how that person is going to react and remember. I always am reminding myself that my 6th grade students are getting information for the first time, and it is MY responsibility to talk to them in a manner that isn't condescending, but supportive and encouraging. I am obviously more intelligent than they, but I don't make it a point to tell them daily "I'm so much SMARTER than all of you!"0 -
Sure I would....
I got no problem with her being the bread winner too! I could hang out here, do some vacuuming, make some sandwiches, and go to they gym whenever I wanted.
I can't think of a single problem I would have with that!0 -
There is far more to "intelligence" than standard book smarts. There are multiple intelligences: linguistic, kinesthetic, verbal, musical, etc. I've met people who are geniuses at designing things out of thin air, but can't tell me HOW they did it without stumbling and stuttering through an explanation. They also can't write any of the steps out, because it all came together in their heads.
I know people who are book smart and street stupid. They might be able to calculate and resolve difficult mathematical formulas, but they can't remember to zip their flies, or they don't understand social boundaries and pragmatics at all.
I have a very high verbal and linguistic intelligence. But, I cannot do algebraic equations to save my life. Does this make me less intelligent? Nope. It just makes me better in certain things than others.
So, I tend to shy away from the whole "What's your IQ?" theory and lean more towards "everyone has talents, it's up to us to find them in ourselves and use them."
BTW, being a teacher with students who have ASD or learning issues has taught me the value and importance of looking at each child's special gift and contribution. One of my students is very perceptive and can verbally answer high order questions, but he can't write out his name legibly because he has difficulty with handwriting.
Intelligence is a subjective term used to describe many facets of a person's abilities.
BUT STUPIDITY KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

Very much this. A well developed sense of humor, social skills work ethic, and being good at ANY trade you have chosen are the most important. I will admit to having a bit of a fetish for very educated men, if they first posess the aforementioned qualities. And kindness.0 -

I wouldn't say you're more intelligent than they are, just more knowledgeable. Intelligence is not knowledge, nor a measure of how much information you possess. It's the ability to acquire and apply knowledge. While you may be in possession of more knowledge than your students, any or all of them may be able to process and apply information better than you, thereby making them more intelligent.
As for the OP, I did, and I married her, although she disagrees with my assessment.0 -

Don't worry that makes sense or at least I understood!
And as for the original question of course. If I ever felt like having "dumb" conversations I would just hang out with my buddies and watch some sports haha.

Great! Lol
Work places are full of dumb conversations :P I can find those anywhere haha0 -
No. I don't mesh well with people considerably more intelligent than myself; I'm not sure why. They have to be smart of course but not to the point of making me feel dumb. My looks are deceiving so once a guy (boy) realizes I'm not a dimwit, they get snarky with me and attempt to belittle me.0
-
I'm mostly dumb....so that leaves me with a tremendous dating pool...lololololololol0
-
Yep, I am currently.. She's wayyyyy smarter lol.. In EQ and in IQ, doesn't change anything though... except the fact she wins arguments about most things more T_T0

I love a man who can challenge me intellectually.0
