Extreme achiness/fatigue from Pilates?

Anyone had that happen? On Saturday I mowed the lawn and went to a Pilates class. I have been mowing the lawn every week for the last 6+ weeks so that's not new, though I did get more done before the battery went since the grass was a lot drier than it has been. When I do a cycling class or a strength class I have been feeling pumped up and energetic. Not so after the Pilates. Sunday morning I slept in for 2 extra hours (which I almost never do). I was feeling just terribly achy, so for hair of the dog I went to a yoga class to see if I could work out some of the tension. I ended up taking a nap in the afternoon, so a total of 4 extra hours of sleep on Sunday and overall yuck feeling. I tried to google, but it couldn't distinguish between sore and achy. To me sore is not a bad thing, it is muscles worked out hard. Achy is a "do I have the flu or something??" kind of feeling, nothing good there.
It really puzzles me what I could have done. Was this from Pilates? Was I fighting something off? Could I have eaten something bad? Allergies? Today I am still achy but less so and I feel some soreness in various places I would expect to feel sore from the exercise. Maybe I just overdid it (though I would find it odd that Pilates + mowing would be overdoing it when Cycle + weights + mowing was fine last week).

Hey -- Here in Atlanta, we have a WEIRD bug going around. NO congestion at all, no fever to speak of -- the only symptoms are
Aching Joints
EXTREME sleepiness (I slept 24 of the 48 hours the 2 days I had it.)
Puffiness around the eyes---I just LOOKED bad.
I would not have known it was a bug except my husband and son had it the week before, so I asked around and tons of folks I knew had had it....It knocks you down. COuld that be it!0 -

If you get really run down from a pilates class then you really need to work on your fitness. In the world of exercise, pilates is really low impact. When you say "strength class" what exactly are you referring to? Strength training isn't frequently taught in a class.0

As I read it, I too went to coming down with something.
Have you ever done a Pilates class before? I'm not surprised you would "feel" some unexpecting muscles after a new Pilates class, but I don't think you could blame the fatigue on it.

Weird - I went to pilates Saturday and yoga Sunday too and I could not stay awake on Sunday! But I think I was just over tired from life in general. My abs are sore - but a good sore...0

My first thought is actually tick born illness from mowing the lawn. Lyme disease? But I do like to watch those diagnosis shows.
Maybe a run of the mill virus?0 -
I've been taking 2 Pilates classes a week since January or February, and there are still occasional classes where I'm wiped out afterwards. Totally depends on what the instructor decides to put us through. Some of it is cumulative, though--I also run and for the last couple of weeks have been doing 30 Day Shred, so a hard workout elsewhere will add to the effect.0

Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Probably just a virus of some kind, no reason for me to avoid Pilates! :laugh:
I wasn't even sweating at the end of the class so while killer on the core it was just weird thinking that it would wipe me out more than cycling or strength (the strength class does things like squats and deadlifts using hand weights and weighted bars).
Checked for ticks and my husband didn't find anything. He just told me now that he was feeling achy yesterday too, so it seems more and more like a short-lived virus, probably felt worse to me because it was mixing in with the actual soreness.0 -
I'd say probably coming down with something too. I used to do pilates classes and I LOVED it. I always felt rejuvenated and relaxed afterwards.0

Was it reformer or mat Pilates? First time? I've taken many Pilates mat classes and am not sore after. However, I've taken a reformer class when I've been pretty physically active (but had not taken a reformer class in ages) and have been very sore after.0

It was a mat class, and not the first time. Pilates isn't necessarily my favorite (anything where you have to do an exercise called The Hundreds that actually numbers in the hundreds isn't usually my style), but my ankle was tweaked so it seemed like the best choice at the time. Maybe I was just looking for an excuse not to do Pilates. :laugh:
I am feeling better now even than when I posted, so I am hopeful that I will wake up tomorrow with only the last remnants of yoga soreness (the teacher of the class is kind of a legend at my gym for being hardcore with the physical part of yoga, definitely not a meditative class).0
