No hrm: Calculating Cal Burn on Elliptical

I normally get all my exercise through running, but a sore knee is forcing me to cool it for a bit. I don't have a HRM. How do I go about calculating my burned calories on an elliptical trainer? Should I rely on what the machine tells me? I am 5'5 and weigh 127.

I got a HRM just yesterday and have used it twice now. I posted yesterday on here about my experince at the gym and what HRM show v the machine. The elliptical was slightly high but not horrible.0

I'm having the same issue. I usually do the elliptical most days for about an hour. I weight 110 at 5'8. It says on the machine I burned 350 today but that seems really high. And at a different gym I did the elliptical (which was slightly different, but same thing) and it said I only burned around 150. So confusing.
Hope you get it figured out.
