Fitbit Question

I just got a fitbit one (which I love) and I synced it to MFP and it randomly adds exercise calories to my food diary. Why does it do this? I have been putting in an effort to walk more but I haven't exercised. Thanks for the help.

you mean Fitbit calorie adjustment ? that is just how many calories you are burning by taking steps. Also if you put in any other cardio workout, specify the start time and it will deduct the calories from the fitbit (so you don't have 2 calorie deductions)0

Here's what it is & how the fitbit adjustments come about:
1. Whenever you sync your Fitbit, we'll retrieve the actual calories burned that you've recorded up to that point in the day (if you sync your Fitbit at 11am we'll look at the 11 hours of data available so far for that day).
2. For whatever portion of the day that you have remaining, MyFitnessPal will use an estimate for your calorie burn based on the activity level that you selected when you initially signed up with MyFitnessPal (Sedentary, Lightly Active, Active, Very Active).
3. If the total of your actual calories burned (from Fitbit) and your estimated calories burned for the remainder of the day are higher than our original estimate for the entire day, we'll adjust your net calorie goal accordingly.
4. The adjustment will be recorded as a cardiovascular exercise on the "Exercise" tab labeled "Fitbit calorie adjustment". This number will automatically adjust every time you sync your Fitbit so don't be surprised if it changes during the day or even if it disappears later in the day.0 -
MFP compares what it thinks you should be burning in a day with what your fitbit says you actually are burning in a day. For example, if you set your MFP diary to sedentary, and your fitbit is sending information saying that you're lightly active, MFP will adjust your calories for you. (Example: MFP says based on your input that you burn 1500 calories per day, but your fitbit is showing that you're really burning 1800 per day, it will adjust and give you an extra 300 on MFP)0

Thank you! That makes complete sense! :drinker:0
