weight loss VERY slow :(

Hey there, I've been using my fitness pal now for three months, pretty much sticking to the 1200 cal per day 90% of the time, exercising 4-5 hours a week, so far i've only managed to lose 6 pounds, feeling rather discouraged about it, anyone else had the same issue?

At least you're losing and not gaining.

Im the same way, i am gaining and then losing. puts a whole new meaning to 2 steps backwards 3 steps forward. its not always staying under caleries, its what your eating.
  • very true but you need to factor in muscle gain if your measurements are going down and your scale isnt changing your losing fat and buliding muscle which is way better then a number on a scale

Are you logging your workouts and eating those earned calories? A lot of us plateau at 1200 calories. That may be to little for your activity level.

It's tough to help if you don't have a public diary. We can't see what you are eating or if you are eating enough on the days you exercise.

Most people will tell you to eat more... especially if you are exercising. 1200 seems low for days you workout. So at least raise your calories on the days you workout.

Make sure you are logging everything (drinks, snacks, meals), make sure you are measuring your food correctly and not just guessing. Figure out your TDEE minus 20% and eat that for a couple weeks to see if there is any change. Also make sure your drinking your water and watch sodium levels. Get yourself a measuring tape and keep track of your measurements instead of the scale

If the ticker in your profile is accurate you only have about 18 pounds to lose. Unfortunately that probably means it will be slow loss. You've lost 6 pounds so far which is great and it's definitely better than losing. You may want to try eating a little more especially with the amount of exercise you're doing. Good luck!

TDEE - total daily energy expenditure, the amount calories your body burns in a 24 hour period, sleeping, working, exercising, playing and even digesting food!

You can use this site to figure it out - www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.htm
  • thanks
  • hi thanks for posting a reply, yes i have heard about the losing fat and gaining muscle, which weighs more than fat. I do zumba and fight club as exercise. I should start measuring myself i guess, not just go by weight

Are you eating back your exercise cals like mfp suggests?
  • ok so muscle does not weigh more it is more dense and if you are doing a lot of working out then you probably are getting tighter have you taken your measurements? you should take them now and a month from now if the scale hasnt budged but your measurements did it just means your gaining muscle and losing fat the number on the scale does not mean anything it can go up and down so much for so many reason look at how you feel and your body comp! hang in there trust me if you do this even if your scale isnt going down youll see its not all about the number on it throw your scale away for a while a go on how you feel!
  • thanks for the encouragement :)
  • i appreciate your input, thanks :)
  • anytime! let me know how it goes!
  • cheers, i'll check it out

You might not be eating enough calories. 1200 is hardly enough for most people.
  • just checked my settings and my profile is set so that mfp members can view it
