Goals and Action Plan

Since MFP is about setting goals, I'm hoping setting my goals in writing will help me to stick with them:

Goals:
I will be able to participate in the low-ropes teambuilding activities on July 22.
I will be able to wear size 14 clothes by August 2 (short-term).
I will reach and maintain a healthy weight as measured by BMI on or before my 50th birthday next summer.

Action Plan:
Follow the MFP daily calorie recommendation.
Log all food and beverages consumed.
Eliminate soda.
Make water my beverage of choice.
Eliminate processed foods.
Eliminate the “whites” – bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc.
Eat healthy fruits and vegetables.
Eat lean meats/healthy proteins.
Follow recommended serving sizes.
Work out using the power walking system, a minimum of eight miles per week.
Initiate the already-purchased Groupon for Curves, to begin by June 1.
Use MFP.

Good job. You don't have to eliminate the whites though.

Can you clarify? I thought those were the "bad" carbs. Thanks!

No there is no such thing as a bad carb it's just a bunch of diet mythology perpetuated by ignorance, and semantics.

There are no such things as 'bad' carbs. Carbs are the body's most effective source of energy :)

White bread and pasta are usually highly refined foods that posses little nutritional benefit. They also cause a rapid spike in blood sugar that comes back down to below where it was, possibly leaving you feeling tired and unsatisfied.

Potatoes are a dietary staple, just have them in small quantities and be careful how you cook them.

You can replace the white bread, pasta and rice with brown and wholegrain alternatives.

In the short term, eliminating these foods completely will cause a reduction in weight, however there has been no long term evidence to support that a low carbohydrate diet is better than a moderate carbohydrate diet in sustaining that weight loss.

I avoid processed food such as white grains to limit my intake and avoid what got me fat in the first place! I have always exercised , so to control my intake I eliminate such food groups , that makes a deficit easy to do! I can eat whatever I want, I choose to eat vegi/vegan . it works for me!

Great tips; thanks! I will modify my eliminate to replace with brown and whole grain alternatives. Just to clarify, I didn't mean to infer a low-carb diet, just a healthy diet as I want to make lifelong changes, not just short term.

    I appreciate the info!
