Calorie deficit will result in losses no matter high protein, low carb, whatever. Keep sticking with it. You'll probably have a 'big' loss next week.

within 1500 calories you could eat low protein - 56g per day - through to high protein at 130 g/day.

So it isn't a choice you have to make.

I do a high protein, low calorie diet. Higher protein levels help retain lean body mass and a calorie deficit is the only thing for fat loss.

Some people prefer a smaller deficit but that's a personal preference thing.

There's no reason it has to be one or the other.

You'll just need to find what works for you. For me 'diets' are short term, lifestyle changes are much more useful.

After years of trying i've finally found what works for me. I eat clean 6 days a week, I have a cheat day where I eat what I want really. I don't log calories, I do intense circuits 3 times a week, a couple of runs 4/5miles. I'll post a couple of average days of meals. I'd say take ideas from various people and see what might work for you. I also limit my carbs (other than my cheat day!!!!)

Breakfast - Fruits, protein shake (whey)
Lunch - Chicken stir fry, noodles, veggies
Dinner - Turkey steaks, roasted garlic, peppers, onions, tomatoes

Breakfast - Scrambled eggs (with cheese), lean bacon
Lunch - Lots of mixed salad, boiled eggs, pork loin
Dinner - Sea Bass fillets, peppers, brocolli, baby corns, carrots, green beans

I feel that now I plan my meals at the start of the week i'm alot more disciplined

Hope this gives you a few ideas to feed into your own routine

    this!

if your clothes are fitting better, you have lost inches, which is better than scale weight anyway!

AMEN!!! Do what works for you and is sustainable in your day to day life dont focus on a temporary diet that restricts too much or you will probably gain weight when you come off the 'diet'.

Build a healthy eating habit that you can continue through weight loss and into maintenance mode

    It depends on your body.

If you want to lose weight, you need to create a calorie deficit.

There is nothing wrong with high protein/low carb just make sure your body is getting enough healthy fats to keep your mood steady.

Best of luck to ya =)

What is best is a balanced diet. That said, I think that MFP is a little too generous with carbs. The calorie counting is a good guide to learning portions and some self control. I am not of the mind that all calories are equal, but they are close enough. There are lots of sources for protein starting with beans, low fat dairy, nuts, lean red meats, chicken and turkey.

In the end, you still have to count calories no matter what you eat, just make better choices.

thanks for all your great advice. i guess low calorie, but a bit more proteien. i agree that MFP is a bit much on the carbs. I dont come close to what i should eat in a day....But i do get my calories in, though always just below my mark. i am going to stick to this for now. must say i love my pasta, and felt deprived with the previous atkins i did a couple years back. honestly i dont think i can live like that forever.....
the 1cheat day sounds like a great idea. i need to be realistic. there is a loooong road ahead of me and rome is not built in a day... thanks again guys!
