What an awesome thing you are doing for your baby! The La Leche League says you burn 500 calories a day nursing. Many women lose tons of "baby" weight just nursing. I was never that lucky. Be very careful about how many calories you give up becasue your body really needs them to make milk. Your body will steal what it needs from your bones, muscles and cells to make the milk needed to nourish your little one if you don't eat enough to nourish both of you.0

I have always heard 500 calories a day if you are exclusively nursing ( no solid foods). When I was nursing and on Weight Watchers, the typical rule (that I learned from a support group, not ww itself) was that once baby was eating solids to count an extra point (about 50 calories) for each nursing session. (Many reported they ended up doing the full 500 anyway... it is really just a play around and see what your body needs thing)0
