I have been feeling much better burning around 400-500 calories a day, instead of 600-700. I am wondering if this is common for people to cut their exercise short because they have reached a certain calorie burn.

(I have been in a bad plateau, decided to eat and burn as much as i could, and nothing changed - so i thought I was not eating enough/burning too much. I myself, find it easier to cut back on exercise rather than increase my calorie amount (as this will be an excuse for me to eat crap))

I exercise for fitness, not calorie burn. Set fitness goals that are independent of calorie burn and weight loss goals. People over-train on this site all of the time because all they care about is the friggin' calorie burn and they lose out on a whole world of fitness opportunities out there that allow you to get an awesome workout without droning away on some machine for hours on end.

I typically burn around 300 calories per day with my workouts. My primary goals are strength gains, so everything I do has that in mind, including my cardio. I do very little steady state cardio...mostly long walks in that RE. I do a couple rounds of tabata daily and do sled pushes/pulls and farmers carries for conditioning cardio...then I just lift heavy things and put them down.

I am in the early stages of losing wt and don't think I can relate yet. I do have a question that you maybe able to help with. I have drastically cut my calories. I don't even know how many I was eating before. Now I am down to 1200 a day. But the question I have is, everything I have read about counting calories and losing weight says that you must consume less calories than you burn. This confuses me. I know I need to consider my BMR. But at a 1200/ day calorie, how many should I burn a day to lose 2 lbs a week? The main reason I am asking is ever since my reduction my runs have been slower and harder.

I have limited my calorie burn to fit time constraints, but not in general. I try to maximize my time and burn when I can. However, if it is working for you and your body is responding better with it, stick with it.
