Hi All, I tried searching in the exercise data base but I can't find anything. How can I figure out a "round about" for walking n jogging ... like if i walked 2 minutes and jogged 2 ... and switching back n forth for an hour or so.

Sounds like there could be a lot of variation possible. Do you know how far you went? That divided by your time will be your average speed.

Although I'm no expert I'd say cut it in half and do half jogging and the other half walking at a quick pace. I have a watch that monitor's my heart rate and tells me how many calories I've burned. It was kinda expensive but a sound investment. The machines at the gym can only estimate cal burn but this is specific to you.

I have a heart rate monitor watch, but mine was pretty inexpensive (less than $30 at WalMart). It is pretty accurate when I compare it to other readings. It takes your pulse, so the more you record it, the more accurate it will be I'm thinking.

For me, I use a heart rate monitor. I do the Galloway method so do run/walk intervals. What I've found is that online calorie estimates based on my average speed over the entire time are pretty close to accurate. So, if I run at 6 mph and walk at 3.5, my average will be around 5 mph. If I look at running for 30 minutes at 5 mph, it will be very close (within 10%) of the burn my HRM shows for a 30 minute run/walk combo.

The MFP database has been pretty accurate for me for running and walking. When I was heavier, and less in shape, it actually underestimated my burn. Now, it slightly overestimates my burn. But it's a very negligible amount that it's off.

There are several places online, including MFP, where you can look up calories burned for walking a certain distance. In general, you dont burn any more calories jogging than you do walking, assuming you go the same distance and on the same terrain. So, if you walk for 3 miles, you have the same calorie burn as running 3 miles. It just takes longer. A half-jog, half-walk would be the same calories as walking the whole way or jogging the whole way.

download mapmywalk or mapmyrun (same app virtually), and it uses gps to give you all the info about your walk/run/job/combo

This is VERY untrue and has been disproven time and time again.

Runkeeper and other apps like it are usually off on calorie burn quite a bit more for me than MFP is.

Do this! figure out your ave speed and log it that way. If you have a smart phone you can take with you, download RunKeeper! It rocks! Helps you track speed and distance as well it lets you set up interval to run and walk. Very helpful!
