    Okay, so I have to bump this.


    For the record, if you're talking about the movies, I couldn't care less about LOTR. But if you talking about the books, "Papa Tolkein" is the one who started it all. Without him, there would likely be no modern fantasy.

    Nerding out...

    I'm going to super-nerd impose Norse, Celtic, and Geek mythologies helped start it even more. Throw in religion on top of that and you have the makings of some great Sci-Fi movies and books.
