Looking for a few opinions, do you add coffee/ soft drinks/ protein shakes to your water consumption for the day? Im looking to get 1.5 Gallons a day and wasn't sure if I should add for these things.. trying to kick Diet Soda anyway, so mostly coffee and shakes each day..

I record water consumption for anything that I add water to (drinks, not food like soups etc.)
When I make a protein shake I record the amount of water I use. I do not record the amount of water for soda or anything else I didn't add water to because I do not know exactly how much water is contained in item.0 -
Your body won't recognize the other things as water and can lead to dehydration0

That's what I was thinking.. Rather have too much then get dehydrated..0 -
Water is water period.0

I only count the actual oz's of plain water I drink in a day. All the other stuff is put in my food diary as a glass of milk, protien shake with water, ect... but I only count plain water under the water drank ticker .......0

I don't bother to count or log water. However, I cannot see how water ceases to be water just because I filter it through coffee grounds and add creamer.0

I only count water as well. If I add water to anything like my protein shakes I don't typically count it.0

I count green tea because I don't put anything in it, it's just water filtered through tea leaves. I wouldn't count coffee though because of the caffeine and because coffee always dehydrates me.0

I don't drink soda in general; I only drink water, tea, coffee and occasionally Crystal Light type flavored water. And I count it all as water.
And someone please explain why my body doesn't recognize tea or coffee as H2O. If I put butter on my baked potato, does my body lose it's ability to recognize the nutritional benefits of the potato?0 -

Huh???? I call BS on this. Show me research that says that.
Weight Watchers, which for the last several years has been the most popular diet plan out their and has a staff of nutritionists and doctors disagree with you. They say anything made with water should count as water. Coffee, Tea, Pop, Crystal Light, Mio Water, you name it. If it's made out of water it counts towards your total intake for the day. They do still recommend that at least half of your intake be straight water but it all counts.0 -

Weight Watchers also says you can eat as much of this stuff as you want while dieting, so Weight Watchers isn't the greatest authority on dieting

I only count the decaffeinated water drinks, but will count water with crystal light or spark or something like that in it.0

Think about this if you are wanting to consume xxx amount of water for whatever your reason health/ diet / detox. Why count anything other then plain water that way in the end you force yourself to drink more then you think .0

Thanks for all the input, I'm going to count only water by itself, no other food/drinks.. then Ill be over like Jenniferitzep said...0
