1300 cals/day MFP starts with a negative # -84?? Why

Any idea what is going on my MFP settings??? I originally was at 1200 per the MFP basic settings - I changed my cal in to 1300 per day and now MFP starts my days of with 1219 by showing me -84 earned? Can anyone explain this to me - I must need to change something else for this to be right. thanks for any assistance in this!! Hope you have a great day! Patti

Do you have a fitbit linked to your MFP account? If so, that may be why. I frequently have negative adjustments at the beginning of the day, but they go away as I am more active throughout the day. If you want, you can always turn off the negative adjustments by going to to My Home > Settings > Diary settings. For more info on the adjustments you can visit this thread - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/752805-fitbit-adjustment-questions

If you don't have a fitbit linked, I am not sure what is going on.

So since you mentioned it...I have my negative setting turned off...should I turn it on?

I'm not sure how -84 takes you from 1300 to 1219 but here are a few things that have gone wrong for me while using multiple apps.

    1. Using fitbit and endomondo, some exercises were counted twice resulting in extremely high calories remaining. Fix: Checked "Enable Negative Adjustments" in my Food and Exercise Diary Settings.

    2. Testing sparkpeople with both it and myfitnesspal connected to fitbit resulting in negative calories remaining because meals were counted twice. Fix: Stopped logging food on sparkpeople until I can figure out how to get it to stop reporting to fitbit.

    3. Logged food and exercise on fitbit resulting in I'm not even sure where to begin describing what all went wrong, lol. I only log food and exercise to mfp and let fitbit autoreport steps taken.

Good luck getting it straightened out. I know it can be frustrating.

MFP recommends you turn it on if you wear the fitbit consistently and you are able to sync multiple times during the day. Apparently, this will give you more accurate feedback. If you do not wear the device all the time and/or you don't sync it very often, they recommend opting out.
