I am no expert on this, but it seems many purists will argue that lifting "heavy" is the practice of power lifting or Olympic lifting only to compete with 1 Rep Max lifts completely compound moves only.
On MFP, many refer to lifting heavy as any lifting where you're working in a rep range that has you working with sets of 5-8 or so without really having any strength left to keep going - not necessarily to failure, but close. And this includes big compound moves like with Stronglifts or Starting Strength or a combination of compound moves and more isolation work as with 5/3/1 or NROL.
