Would love to add friends that also are battling thyroid issues. But you don't have to have thyroid probs to be my pal-- I would also like friends who just could give me positive reinforcement. I would like to lose a 130lbs and see oneder land again......

I had a partial thyroidectomy and I have been having problems making the scale move even with a good "diet". Currently taking Synthroid, but still having "hypo" symptoms. Before my thryroid was partially removed I was having the up and down the scale thing happen lost 60lbs without even putting forth any effort, then would gain it right back out of no where. I haven't had the unexpected weight loss since the surgery so I think I'm pretty much gonna be on the "hypo" side of things from here on out......

    Hi!
I have struggled for YEARS with Hypo. I have taken Synthroid since I was 15ish. I have never been able to lose the weight I gained having children. I could not eat solid food for eight weeks (Jaw surgery) and I did not lose a single pound! I am working with a new doctor and finally with a specialist to hopefully get this thing on track. I need to lose a lot of weight (105), I have tried and failed many times because despite my efforts the scale hardly moves. I am hopeful this time, I am refocused on overall health & fitness rather than the scale, if the weight follows then great.
I would love to connect with people who know what I am dealing with :)

    Hi there!

I too have hypothyroidism. Every time we seem to get my medication at the right level, my thyroid becomes less effective and the same cycle starts again. But, I have managed to lose 78 pounds since September 2012! So it is possible! If you had told me that it was possible to lose this much by this point in time, I would have rolled my eyes and snorted at you in haughty derision!

It is possible! You can do this too! :flowerforyou:

Argh. Forgot to take my medicine today.

Anyhow, I have a slllllllllloooooooooooooooooow thyroid. Super duper slow. I lost less than a pound per week while maintaining a 1200 cal diet and ~600 cal burn per day. Higher calories meant i would actually gain! (Everyone is quick to sound the "starvation alarm" for 1200 cal days but the reality is that my system can't effectively manage more regardless of exercise.

Finally lost the weight I wanted to lose after several months on MFP.

Trick for me was no eating past 7 (sooo hard) and no junk sugar (sucrose, also very hard). But, if I kept to those rules and ate clean and under 1200, I was golden.

I'm on synthroid and still have hypo effects - I am very low energy, but I kick myself out the door to run each day.
People swear by Armor (not sure of spelling - maybe it's armour) but I've only tried synthroid and generic. Beware of generic - it's not the same time release and most docs are not believers of it. It didn't work for me as well as synthroid.

Add me if you like! I'd be glad to support you!

Generic Synthroid didn't work for me either. I was also told it is poorly regulated.

Take your meds now, if you can, if not I was told I can double up the next day, you will not overdose on them. :) (Of course check with your Dr. as needed.)

My Dr. said no to generic; I was asking because of the price difference, but I don't want to have any more ups and downs than I already do! I've been reading a lot about Armour and Naturethroid; I don't have many options though with lack of Dr's in my insurance network...
