I feel like I'll always be fat & ugly and never lose weight

Ugh...I've been on mfp for 7 months! guess how many pounds i lost! guess?! like 4 or 5!
in 7 months! i could have been at my goal weight already, but here i am still fat as ever!

i'm not trying to make excuses, no no no. it was 100% my fault for not losing the weight and always giving up and failing. but ugh, i just feel like i'll never lose weight and i'll be fat and ugly :( i have such low self-esteem it's terrible!

i really really want to lose this darn weight! i struggle with depression daily and have suicidal thoughts because of this and my "friends". my friends all talk behind my back and they use me as the D.U.F.F. (designated ugly fat friend) so they get the hot guys while i'm just the ugly b*tch.

my life is miserable because of me being fat. i mean i feel like i'm wasting my whole life. i feel stupid, fat, miserable, and ugly. i'm 19!!! i'm supposed to have fun and be hot and sexy!!!! but i'm not! :( i just want this pain to end! i want my life back!

i want to be fit, confident, skinny, and hot! i desperately want to be, but i'm just such a failure!!!! i can't lose this damn weight! i try for a few days or weeks but i'm so lame and weak i'll buy a ton of junk food to eat out all my sorrows.

i just want to be skinny and pretty....is that too much to ask for?! :(

    Hugs you gently.

As I look at your picture I have a feeling your depression is a bigger problem than your body size. I'm sure you feel huge and ugly and desperate but I wonder if that will change with a change in your brain chemistry. Have you seen a doctor for your depression yet? Please tell someone you are feeling suicidal and get some help right away for that. I've been suicidal and the help I finally received was a huge weight off my mind. Now I can work on the weight on my body.

I see from your exercise journal that you like o swim. How about kicking that up a notch and really learning to swim laps? That will tone you up.

As a person looking down the barrel of a 100+ weight loss ahead of me, you look just fine!

Strive not to compare yourself to others. You are unique, but it sounds like your inner voice is just crushing your soul. Give yourself a break. Talk to someone positive, meditate, read Byron Katie.

no one can do the work for you...and to get to where you want to be you have to do the work...

there are no short cuts, no magic pills, no waving of magic wands, and poof, the healthy you emerges...

sounds like you have a whole lot of excuses, we all have them my dear....so don't think that you are the only one...

my I suggest that you get that depression under-control with some kind of medication to give you the boost that you need to get started...

I suffer from depression myself...but I find that with a good exercise routine and a diet focused on nutrition that I have less and less need for medication...exercise is a great stress/anxiety/depression reliever...

then find yourself a new group of friends if you feel that they don't treat you right...remember, you let people treat you that way...stand up for yourself cause you are worth it...

you need to change your life-style...do a complete 180 but try not to be over-whelmed and do it all at once....start small, really, really small...

tomorrow, stop drinking your calories...switch to plain water as much as possible. if you need some flavor try adding some lemon and limes...

once you have done that for a few days then add in something else...maybe a short walk 15 to 20 minutes and then increase that time by a few minutes every other day...

then start looking at your diet...switch simple carbohydrates for complex carbs...sweet potato instead of white, whole wheat pasta instead of regular pasta, whole grain bread instead of white bread...

start making one meal a week that is meat-free and try incorporating more fresh vegies and fruits in your diet....

but like I said, not all at once...baby steps, small changes that you can keep up with for the rest of your life....

and if you have a bad day, don't let it turn into a bad week or bad month...you can look how you want to look, but you have to believe in yourself, cause if you don't, then no one else will!

Take care of yourself, first and foremost. Then look into getting different friends.

Unless those photos in your profile aren't you, you are demonstrably not huge fat and ugly. But on some level you know that.

Being "skinny" won't make you happy, because you are a beautiful girl right now and you are still miserable about how you look, and either you think your friends are dissing you behind your back or they actual are. (In either case, that's a problem.)

You know what you have to do to lose weight: keep track of everything you eat and eat fewer calories than you burn. But I doubt that's really your problem.

Stop being so negatively self centered. People probably are not talking about or even thinking about how you look, most of the time. If they are, get rid of the toxic people in your life. This is the most important "weight" you can lose. Have some confidence in yourself and it will show.

As a fellow MFPer, I would suggest that you try to eat as clean as possible, stay under your calorie limit, and try to get a really nice, long walk in 4-5 times per week.

As someone who has struggled with primary depression and generalized anxiety for 15+ years, I would suggest the above PLUS go see a counselor/therapist/doctor.

And as someone who has lived in Los Angeles her whole life, I can tell that you are going to be SMOKIN' hot once you reach your goals. So don't give up. :flowerforyou:

Skinny doesn't equal happy. Skinny doesn't equal popular. Skinny doesn't equal no problems. Skinny doesn't even equal hot (check out photos of Marilyn Monroe. Incredibly sexy...not skinny) All skinny equals is...skinny. You're still you, with all the same baggage you had before. Now...talk to me about feeling healthy, feeling good in your body..feeling confident in your ability to be healthy. To be the best you that you can. That is wonderful...and hot. And you can have that, but it doesn't happen overnight and it takes readjusting your thinking. You can do that. Start now. MFP is a tool to help you get there...but it all starts with you. Its an inside job.
  • That was my problem for several years. I wanted to lose the weight so badly that I would just go all out and go to the extremes. Even if its not the extreme, you can't be trying to follow a regimen that noticeably makes you miserable. No matter how willed you are, your body is biologically programmed to fight against it. I think you should start slow. Really change what you are eating and focus on true nutrients (think whole grain bread, juicing, fruits/veggie substitutions like kale chips instead of potato chips, whole grain oats to make oatmeal with) and you will all of a sudden realize that you are fuller and aren't even eating as much! Also just try to do something a day as far as exercise for about 30 minutes. I used to always kill myself right away and try to burn as many calories as I could, but I wouldn't even make it a week without giving up and all I was doing was hurting my body. Now I do hiit workouts (dailyhiit.com), yoga, and other things that I actually think are kind of fun. I can't always finish the workouts or I have to take breaks but I just push a little further as I am ready.

Please just trust me on the fact that thinking about a number in this situation is not going to get you anywhere. You need to focus on being healthier. I know that sounds stupid but once you start seeing the difference you will be so motivated to see what more you can do. Fast results would be AMAZING, but in reality that doesn't usually work. Slow changes and maybe 2 pounds a week may not be what you want, but it is definitely what will work in the end.

Positivity also helps a lot. When I looked at my situation in a more positive way (like trying to be healthier, fit, and toned) instead of negative (negative thoughts, blame, exc.) I was more free to set goals for myself instead of feeling like my situation was hopeless.

In other words, first things first...
