looking for guidance

I am just starting this fit journey now that I am hoping to change jobs. I went to the gym today and did some workouts....I guess.
My goal is to lose 10 pounds but gain in back in muscle and abs. I am 5'2 and weigh 120.
I did three thigh machines with 10 each time and 3 reps
Bench press 3 reps with two dumbell exercises and the pulley exercise.....I have no idea what its called but its when you grab the two bars palms down and pull them down towards the floor.

Anyway I am just wondering if anyone can give me guidance for weight training and being a beginner because I don't want to start out and do it all wrong.

As for nutrition I drink a slim fast shake in the morning before the gym because of the protein and I eat about 1200 calories a day. Just not really sure what direction to go in.
Anyone with some help would be awesome! Thanks a lot.

Nerdfitness.com and Jefit.com are good resources for creating an effective beginners workout.
