Calorie Shifting?

I noticed in one of the posts on here that people mentioned cycling their calories, or calorie shifting. I've done some online research but I find so many different variations of it, I'm not sure what to think about it yet. I like the idea of simply changing up the amount of calories per day, but I'm not sure about changing the types of foods or only eating 4 meals a day, etc.
For those of you who are following the calorie shifting diets, what do you suggest? If you are focusing on the amount of calories only, what kind of success have you had with it?
Thanks for the help!!

I've only recently started back up doing it, but when I was doing it before (I feel off the wagon) I had lost 97 lbs. I just track calories, and I don't give myself extra on the days I work out, but I do try to plan my workouts on my higher calorie days.
Hope this helps?0
