So recently I started exercising again and i'm doing cardio three times a week and yoga twice a week. I want to start weight lifting but i'm not quite sure how to do so effectively.

For example, how often should I strength train? Should I do it on the days I do cardio or yoga/does it matter? Also, is there a certain routine I should follow - something better for beginners?

If anyone has any articles too that would be great! Thanks :)

    The basic beginner rules:

    1. Do compound lifts.
    2. Your initial goal is to learn how to do the lifts correctly and safely.
    3. Once you can do the lifts correctly and safely, progress quickly to take advantage of the Beginner Effect.
    4. Eventually, the weights you lift should increase until you are exhausted on the 5th rep of your last set.
    5. Eat right. Get enough rest.

Stronglifts 5x5, Starting Strength, and New Rules of Lifting for Women are all pre-packaged programs that should get you up and rolling. Look them up, pick the one that looks like most fun, and get started!.

Strength training is hard. You don't want to do anything else too strenuous on lift days. A lot of beginners can't exercise for 2 full days after lifting. That's why most beginner strength programs are only 3 days a week. But it's also very rewarding, and I think it's a lot of fun!
