Dizzy

I have been dizzy for two years now. It started during my first pregnancy and it just never went away after that. I have been to several doctors (my ob/gyn, ENT, neurologist, holistic doctor, 2 regular care drs, been to the ER a few times when it's been really bad, and I've had an MRI of my head). The doctors cannot tell me what is wrong with me. My other symptoms are nausea, headaches and stomach pain but the worst symptom by far is the dizziness! Part of the reason I am overweight is because I never feel well enough to exercise. I have become depressed about my weight so I have changed my diet and starting doing the 30 Day Shred. I don't know if I should stop exercising or not bc I do get really dizzy during my workouts but I am also dizzy just sitting on the couch too. I guess my question is do I need to do cardio to lose weight or can I lose 35lbs by diet alone? I know it probably isn't safe to be working out while feeling dizzy.

When was the last time you had your vision checked? I was having similar symptoms, and it turned out my eyesight had changed. Got fitted for some glasses, and I've felt fine ever since!

I have been to the eye doctor twice since the dizziness started. My vision hasn't changed. I was thinking it might have something to do with my eyes too as I have been seeing "spots" and will just be looking forward and then I will see a bright light out of the corner of my eye. It doesn't matter if I'm wearing my contacts or not or if it's dark or light in the room. It sucks not knowing what it wrong! Thanks for your reply.

How much protein are you eating daily?
    How much do you weigh?

I've had constant vertigo of varying degree since September 2006. Like you, there has been no specific medical cause for it determined. It is assumed that it is labyrinthitis that never healed, essentially inner ear issues that resulted in permanent damage.

The thing that helped me the most, though it was brutal, was vestibular rehabilitation. It is a type of physical therapy that helps you restore balance and decrease the dizziness. Your doc can give you a referral. It is awful to go through but really helped me heal significantly. As I said, I still have some low level dizziness and occasional flare-ups of serious spins, but nothing like it was before the rehab.

For me, exercise is vital to my emotional well being. It helps ward off the anxiety and depression that could creep in (and has crept in on occasion) of having a chronic condition.

I haven't really started logging everything I am eating yet. I am a vegetarian but I am pretty sure I am getting enough protein. I have eggs with cheese for breakfast and I have soy products for lunch and sometimes for dinner. I am at 174 lbs..I was at 183 two months ago right after the birth of my second child.

Can diet coke cause symptoms like this?? That's the only thing that I can think of that I have been consuming consistently for the past two years. But that wouldn't explain why I only started having issues when I got pregnant though.

Thanks for sharing your story! The ENT said everything was fine but who knows! I will keep seeing doctors until I find one that is actually helpful. Do you have any other symptoms with the dizziness? Any stomach issues or anything? I get bad cramps in my stomach that tylenol doesn't even come close to helping with!

This is what has worked in most of the cases I have seen that have no medical cause. You should consider it.

As long as your eating at a deficit you will lose weight. Of course exercise helps the process but you don't want to injure yourself trying to exercise. If some exercises don't make you as dizzy as others maybe just do those.

I should also mention that eliminating common migraine triggers helps keep my more severe episodes at bay. This could be what is going on with you since it started with pregnancy, as it can have hormonal links. I don't get migraines but my spells are caused by triggers that cause migraines or seizures in other people. Dizziness just happens to be my "weak" spot. Some of my more obvious triggers are dairy, soy sauce (or Braggs or tamari), hormonal cycles, pressure changes in the weather, and bright sunlight. When I talked to my doc about these he recommended more vestibular rehab. (Doh!)

Forgot to add that I also had an HIDA scan and it showed that my gallbladder was only functioning at 18% but the dr said that could mean many things and even the medicine that the ER gave me could have affected the results. Of course they tell me this AFTER I take the test. Then I got pregnant again so I stopped trying to find out what was wrong bc I knew drs would just tell me it's related to the pregnancy. Thinking it might be a gallbladder issue but not sure! I will look into the vestibular rehabilitation as well.
