i can,t understand why people try to make losing weight complicated the 2 main big diets weight watchers and slimming world are very successfull and they are based on normal foods smaller portions and moving more if you want to kick start a diet MOVE MORE EAT LESS stop confusing people with fad diets that get people no where but back to square one this is not supposed to be a diet its a lifestyle change and as such should be as simple as possible to stick with for life just my 2 cents mate:happy:

and no one should remove a food group unless advised by a dr ie wheat gluten dairy

I personally think the orginial poster has some good advice. I am a lower carb/higher protein believer. I am not LOW carb as I eat over 125g/day of GOOD carbs and try to cut the pasta and bread to a VERY minimum each month. I do have a slice of pizze, or a tortilla, or pasta once/twice a week. More than that DOES sabotage my loss. I am over 50 and it is already harder to lose.

The reason I support this the most is that I see constant diaries where folks are doing 12-1400 calories/day and losing some weight. However, they are making those calories up out of bread, donuts, cookies, sugar-free candy, a touch of protein and fruit. COME ON>>>>just because you are dropping a few pounds doesn't mean you are doing anything right! FUEL YOUR BODY please,

I eat fruit and I am diabetic. I just do it with protein to eliminate the sugar spike. The post did not say eliminate fruit.
However, if you are running on crap carbs, you are not winning the race. If you lose ALL your weight eating this unhealthy....I'll bet my retirement income that you will gain it back in less than a year.

yesterday had REAL symptoms of sugar addiction withdraw. People at work were eating a sweat pasta dish and I was just about losing my mind and started sweating on my forehead and lower back! crazy. Today has started off better. Have been able to stay under 30g for almost 3 days now.

I lost 30lbs right away (20 since being on here) then it STOPPED!! just stopped, no more weight loss for more than 2 months! I was working out harder than ever and doing everything right. the only sugar I was getting was from natural sources. I thought I would mix it up and change the diet. I decided to cut DOWN my sugar to less than 30g a day and bam! in the last two days I finally moved 1.6lbs off the scale. I know that everyone's body is different. there is no use in trying to hassle this guy about posting this, it can and will help people!

I warn though that it is incredibly hard to find food that does not have high sugar but contains enough calories to keep you at your goal. DO NOT STARVE!!

I think cutting out bread, pasta, sugary stuff etc will certainly kick start weight loss but not because of any metabolic advantage or other such nonsense but simply because of the following:

    1) it makes eating at a calorie deficit more achievable for many people because
    2) it helps with satiety as most people either replace them with items better for blunting hunger (good quality protein sources / fibrous veg etc) or end up eating less in general due to stable blood sugar levels (whilst I think GI and GL are over rated they are still a useful guideline for many people)

If you can stick to a sensible calorie deficit whilst eating bread, pasta and sweets and you like it then: do that
If you can't and find replacing them with something else which keeps you in deficit: do that

    Exactly! I agree...

I followed a 1200 calorie diet for almost a year and walked an average of six miles a day, and gained .5 pounds. Last week I switched to one ingredient, low carb foods (2 servings of fruit a day). Sticking with 1200 calories. I have lost 6.5 pounds. I am not hungry and do not have 'cravings'. I feel amazing!! I am not here to debate but to simply say I believe that every'Body' is different.

Even if there was a well proven documented study that told me beyond doubt that cutting BREAD, PASTA OR SWEETS from my diet was gonna give me a body like Gisele Bundchen............still wouldn't do it! I love them too much and life is too short. I have learned to eat these things in limited portions. They are now more of a treat rather than a staple in my diet. I could give a flying *kitten* about the science pro's or con's. I like it, I eat it.
Humm, if I could get a body like Gisele, I'd do it. Then, nobody would ever hear from me again because I'd spend all my time standing naked in front of a mirror!

    Hehe ... sorry, couldn't resist!

Bollocks to that, I can give or take bread and sweets, but I love pasta and I will eat it, especially if I'm doing a hard workout later on. I just portion control it.

I generally have a pretty low carb and sugar diet anyway, so no ones taken the occasional bowl of pasta from me!
