Favorite Stephen King movie/book?

Film: The Shining
Book: Bag of Bones, or The Stand I've reread both at least 5 times
Really couldn't get into Lisey's story at all but I enjoy almost all the books and films(no matter how cheesy the movies are!)0 -
Really - Under the Dome? I just couldn't get into it, nothing ever really happened (as far as I got before giving up). I don't mean this to sound cheeky, but I really am keen to know what you liked about it :flowerforyou:
I know you weren't responding to me, but I liked Under the Dome as well. Nothing happened? How far in did you get? The character development and dearth of characters reminded me of The Stand and It. One big thing with that book is that, although their are good guys, they're really out of luck the whole time. They make plans and have good ideas, but they really have no choice but (for the most part) let what's going on happen and then try to pick up the pieces as they go along. It was bleak.0 -
Favorite book has got to be IT! I love it and didn't think the movie was as great! I expected so much more from the movie! As for my fav King movie, I'm going to go with Needful Things.0
-
Creep Show and Misery are my two faves.0
-
Langoliers, IT, Christine and I love the new series Haven0
-
I love all things Stephen King, used to be a little obsessed with him.
I don't think I could choose a favorite book, but there are so many good ones that no one has mentioned! Like Desperation, or The Dark Half.
I agree with pretty much everyone else, the books are hands down so much better than the movie adaptations. There just isn't enough time to include all of the subtle details.0 -
Dolores Claiborne
Misery
Both are fantastic books.0 -
I just got bored, I thought it meandered. I think King can be overly descriptive sometimes, so maybe there wasn't enough...I don't know. I think I got about a third to a half of the way through, and gave up. I spent so long studying for uni that if a 'pleasure' book doesn't grab me reasonably quickly, I give up. Time's too precious! I did ask a friend who'd read it if it were worth persevering and he said it wasn't.
At the risk of sounding negative, here're my loves though ~
The Green Mile (movie - if I evern want to cry or wallow, that's my go-to movie)
Langoliers (always wanted to see the movie, but maybe not now as you guys have said it's rubbish)
I've seen/ready many others that I've liked though, just not as much.0 -
Once Stephen King has been working from inside my brain, you can't scare me from the outside.
Completely agree. Although, I have to say that once I saw how perfect Tim Curry was as Pennywise, I could never read the book without picturing him.0 -
The Shining
But have to watch Shawshank Redemption every time it comes on.0 -
Oh, another two favorite books: Rage and The Long Walk0
-
I like a lot of his books (Misery, The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, 11/22/63, Thinner, The Long Walk, etc ...) but my all time favorite is ... by far ... The Eyes of the Dragon.
how did I forget The Eyes of the Dragon! that was a great one!
Yayyy!! I rarely find other people who've read The Eyes of the Dragon! :drinker:0 -
Stephen King my favorite author
Pet Cemetary
The Stand
and of my most favorite the book he wrote under the name Richard Bachman which was released in 1979 and then re-released in the Bachman books in like 1985
The Long Walk
When I read Hunger Games I was like - wow it's like the Long Walk- but Hunger games morphs in another direction with stylists and all.0 -
Books-Bag of Bones, Needful Things and Dark Tower series
Movies-Classic Jack Nicholson's The Shining0 -
Not really a fan of his movies...fave books Needful Things and The STand.0
-
I just finished 11/22/63- I just loved this book so much. I'm rereading the Stand right now. Probably those two are my favorites.
As for movies, my favorites are Stand by Me and The Green Mile.
Not a book but I have to mention that I really loved the column in Entertainment Weekly that he used to do.0 -
THE STAND0
-
The Stand or Thinner... as with most King, (except Shawshank and Green Mile), getting either of them properly translated to TV/Film failed when they could have been as good as the books0
-
I loved The Stand (book version), but the movie adaptation was just ok. Favorite movie based on his stories wasn't actually a horror one at all - "Stand By Me". Although The Shining is way up there, with some awesome cinematography, acting and soundtrack (just the first few notes of the opening song had my hair on edge the first time I watched that).
I've both read and seen "It", and while both were well done, I can't call them my "favorites", because I'm pretty sure my current abject fear of circus clowns had something to do with those.0 -
Book: The Stand
Movie wise...is it just me or does it seems his movies don't come across well? I had high hopes for "The Mist" but it was horrible IMO. I know they are making "Cell" which I really loved reading but fear it will suck.0 -

Oh, I totally forgot about that one. That was a good one.0 -
Rose Madder
I loved this book! Has it been made into a movie? I'll have to google that.
Other favorites:
Tommyknockers (but the ending stunk)
Needful Things (but the ending stunk)
Thinner
Dolan's Cadillac
The Stand
Stand By Me0 -

Ooooohhhhh...I didn't know "Cell" is being made into a movie. I'd forgotten about that one! It was a good read.0 -
I read one his new ones back in April that was really good. 11/22/63, it is about time travel and trying to stop the JFK assassination.0
-
A few more of my favorites:
Misery
Dolores Claiborne
Gerald's Game0 -
Book Desperation was a good movie also0
-
Pet cemetary still scares me every time!!!! I hate it though haha.0

What's your favorite Stephen King book or movie? Is there any Stephen King story that you enjoyed more as a movie than as a book or vice versa?
The Stand and Dark Tower series, by far.
And, "Shawshank Redemption" clearly stands out as the best King film adaptation. I think the film version is far more moving than the original novella.0 -
and carrie. I loveee carrie.0
-
I think almost all of the visualized versions of his books are pretty crappy, save a very select few.
As for books, they're hit-or-miss in my opinion. I prefer the ones that are more realistic than science fiction-y, though I do like The Eyes of the Dragon. My favs would probably be Dolores Claiborne (sp?!), Misery, Thinner, Gerald's Game, and Needful Things.0
