HOw often do you weigh?

HEy folks, question is as above really, how often do you jump on the scales?

I read somewhere once that if you weigh daily you lose more weight in the long run but I am not too sure about this as your weight changes daily with water etc.

So do you weigh daily, weekly, monthly or other?!

Thanks for any replies in advance :D

    1-2 times a week. For me, more=crazy, less=lazy

I weigh once a week, i try to aim for the same time and day each week, my weight can change quite a bit and i think if i weighed myself more than this then i would start obsessing over the numbers on the scale.
  • I weigh myself daily. I try to do it around the same time everyday (which I hear is best). Usually after my morning bathroom break. Also, it helps if your clothing each time is roughly the same weight as previous... OR you can always do it nude. Lol
  • I was driving myself crazy by weighing myself daily and seeing the fluctuation so I switched to weighing in once a week. I picked Wednesdays so I would have a couple days to get back on track if I have a rough weekend. :)

I get on the scale daily (usually twice a day - morning and night) but only official record my weight on Friday mornings before I eat anything.

Lots of different approaches then, I think I want to go to weekly weighing but not sure if I can wait a week before getting on the scales again haha

I was weighing every day and it wasn't pretty....too much fluctuation..........I then tried monthly......and that's not good either.........so I'm going to every day but recording only weekly.......with my official weigh in maybe on Wednesdays as a poster above mentioned.

I "officially" weigh in once a week and always on Tuesday mornings right when I get up. It's the only way to really be sure your WI's are as consistent as possible. These are the weigh in's I record on MFP and in my weight loss log.

I do hop on the scale just about every morning though, out of curiosity and to check how I'm doing.

Once a day, every morning before breakfast.

I find it encouraging to see the weight coming off daily, even if it is only a few ounces per day!

I step on the scale every morning but post my weight on here on Friday Mornings.
I find if I weigh less that morning it gives me more incentive to keep up the good work. If I've gained, it motivates me to step it up a notch.

Once a day and I track it in an app so I can watch the trend.

I weight myself first thing every morning, however, I only record one day a week (Thursday) and I go off of that number. I like to know how I'm doing throughout the week, BUT I'm really good at not stressing over the fluctuations. Based on how that number moves throughout the week, I can usually tell how my official weigh-in will go. For those who freak out over the ups and downs that happen - weighing every day is not a good idea :)

I weigh myself daily first thing in the morning. I weigh daily because of the fluctuations. I really have a feel for how my weight changes now. If I only weighed once a week and that day happened to be a higher weight day, I'd be upset seeing the scale go up. I record my weight every 4 - 7 days depending on my progress.

Officially once a week. But just to monitor, I weigh daily at the msame time. I am not concerned about daily upward fluctuations but I do record any new lows. This helps me with my motivation. At least that's what works for me. :-)

I weigh myself whenever I want to which changes from every couple of days to a whole week, but I have an "official" weigh in once a week where I write down the number.

I also get my mum to measure me about every 2 weeks as even if it doesn't look like you've lost much weight you may have lost inches!

The fact that your weight can fluctuate daily is exactly why (I believe) you should weigh yourself everyday. You are looking for a weekly average. What if the one day you choose for your weekly weigh-in is that day you are 1-2 lbs high or low. You may make changes to your targets for no reason - or be ecstatic/depressed based on an abnormal reading. In other words, weighing once a week does not give you a weekly average - it gives you one data point and your only hope of seeing any average is now at the monthly point. More data is good (when averaged and compared correctly).

The key is not to obsess over that daily weighing. Just take the data and log it. Average your weekly weight and compare it to the week prior to determine progress. Disclaimer: not a nutritionist - just a guy with an engineering degree and lots of practical experience in data/trend analysis and modeling (data not fashion).

I should also mention that weight is just one bit of data that you should be using to assess your overall fitness progress. I recommend getting taped to track progress there. If you are incorporating weight training (recommended) into your fitness routine then you may experience a period with little weight loss, but with inches dropping off. That is a great marker of success. Also, are you getting stronger, able to do a cardio routine longer, clothes fit better, have more energy? The scale is just one way to track toward your goal. Best of luck!

I weigh myself daily. It does seem to fluctuate day to day, but they do say if you weigh yourself daily you tend to lose. For me if it has gone up one day, it makes me watch my meals and workouts more so that day. It's a bit of motivation for me.

Two days a week - on my days off. I do the same system every time. I make and drink a smoothie as soon as I get out of bed, poop (I know I know TMI), then weigh myself.

never used to but when my weight loss slowed down I started weighing myself daily, but only "check in" once a week.

I jump on and off the scale quite often, just to persuade this damn thing to show lower numbers - altough this doesn't help ;o)
But I don't take this seriously!

For MFP I just weight myself once a week on Thursday morning - and update my weight, even if I don't like the numbers the scale shows off.

I started weighing daily and logging every day or two. I have such huge fluctuations in my weight, so I'm trying to figure out if what I'm eating is bloating me up. I don't feel like it's obsessive, if I started to then I'd stop myself. Now I check in regardless of if I'm up or down, a friend on here suggested doing it because I may be able to see a pattern. I've had issues in the past where that stupid number would dictate my mood for the rest of the day but I think I've gotten past that (of course i was down this morning so that may be why I'm so optimistic!)

I weigh every other week. I don't have a scale. I weigh in my nutritionist's office. I usually show a loss this way. I don't like to see the scale go up and down.
  • Okay, I was weighing every day. But I am not losing weight and I see by the responses you have that those who weigh less often seem to be losing more. Think it is time for a change to once a week!
