deb--yay you! how great to spend the time the night BEFORE getting yourself focused. and putting on the fridge is very smart!
glad to find a fellow dr laura fan. i don't always agree with everything she says, but there is so much to be learned from her and her listeners.
you said abt follow thru. i can totally relate. that is my issue in all matters. i get so excited and pumped out but then peter out...
i do find that having this site is the BEST for me. even tho we aren't irl friends, i feel close to this group. and i feel like i can do more/better b/c of the people here.
I so agree! I have not been good at all today, I got my piano tuned which took 4 hours, that really shouldn'tmatter but between that and both kids having the stomach flu my day has been turned upside down.
I actually purchased Dr lauras praise of SAHMs this morning, I had gotten it from the library before. You got me tihnking about it again.
Happy new year everyone!!0 -
hi girls! i did well till dinner--dinner relatively good but high in salt. had a sandwich on sourdough--lett, tomato, some cheese, roast beef, turkey, PICKLES
it's the pickles and the fact that i had a little extra that i didn't need that probably took me over. not checking....
well, we have finished making our plates. i use the Make A plate kit in case anyone is interested. i really like my design (I trace a printable and adapt it as i am not at all good at freehand drawing).
i traced 2 littlest hands for 2 plates and then they also did their own. dh did a plate of a stylized (think andy warhol) glenn beck saying 'I survived 2009 with Glenn Beck!' he thinks he is just so funny (himself, not glenn beck necessarily). he was gonna do obama--and not to get into a big political debate--but we are not obama supporters and i really didn't want a forever pic of him in our home, even if it is just a silly plate. i said he cd use that pic for a dartboard at his office if he wants it!
(my little daughter "voted" for obama and took a pic with his lego version and wax version--her hero, she says--hehe)
we also made a funfetti cake which we will frost soon and sing happy new year. that's our treat for tonight!
during the day we bought a dishwasher and new glasses for me (boy broke my frames!). kids got tcby and played at mall too. and yes, jr, i did make it to walmart. i only took oldest and was done in less than an hour. got tons of stuff--even frozen meals and candy--for $137! i love walmart!!
ok, enuf chatting for me. time to snuggle the girls (boy fell asleep on the couch an hour ago). happy, healthy new year to all of us! so glad to have met you in 2009 and continue to be with you in 2010!0 -
Happy New Years! I woke up this morning, weighed myself, and *drumroll* REACHED MY FIRST GOAL! I'm at 228.8, down from 248. It's not quite 20 lbs, but I'll take it! I mainly wanted to be at 228 this morning. It feels good to start the year off right.
So what are your goals?
Mine are to clean up the house & get organized. My mom is thinking of bringing my favorite aunt out for Grace's b-day. They share the same b-day. It means really ransacking the house, top to bottom, including a new paint job. The biggest job: Getting all my commissions caught up and out of here so we can convert my studio into a bedroom for Grace as a b-day present. Let's hope we can do it by June!
So, checking in:
Starting Weight: 248
Current Weight: 228
Goal Weight: 150 lbs by September 23, 2010.0 -
wow trish! that is so awesome that you reached your goal!! and so inspiring too!
as for that top to bottom cleaning project--you seem to be very much the go-getter and i'm sure you'll get that done in time! :drinker:
happy new year to all of us!! let's start strong and go go go! (that cheer is to get me motivated too) :flowerforyou:0 -
Thanks, Stacey!
Remember, ladies. We are SAHMS... We are MACHINES! Let's keep ourselves revved and well-oiled with exercise & healthy eating all year long, so we can conquer any task we face!0 -
anyone know how to have 2 tickers from ticker factory? i made one for my miles and one for p90x--but the p90x one replaced the miles.
anyone more techie than me who can explain what i need to do??
**oh, and jr, you were asking abt more calorie dense foods but not too heavy....1/4 cup walnuts = 200 cals + 1/4 cup raisins=130 for 330 total cals.
also natural pb's are about 90 cals per tblspoon.

Thanks, Stacey!

I love this! It makes me feel powerful!!
My weight was down today, I feel as though the planning I have been doing is actually paying off! I am going to keep it up!!
Have a great day!0 -
yay deb!!!
ok, i got the two tickers in there. let's see if i'll be able to enter data into both of them and maintain the designs. hmmm, that means i have to do some exercise to have something to record...hehe0 -
Happy New Years, Ladies!0

same to you silver! nice to hear from you!0

Happy New Years everyone! I have been away from home for 24 hours. We always spend NY Eve & Day at the in-laws. Don't know if I can really give you a picture of that. Hubby has 3 sibs & there are 30ish nieces & nephews. From mid 20s down to the littlest who is 2. We play games, drink punch, eat goodies & basically hang out & catch up on playing & visiting. It is a blast but I am sooooo glad to be home. So tired I am punchy--sorry if I don't make any sense.
I did great on my workouts this week so that I hope tomorrow when I weigh it won't be too awful. I am going to be so sad next week when we have to start school back up around here(we home school). The regular schedule just doesn't allow as much time for my works outs. I guess I am going to have to get up earlier(yuck) or get creative.
My goals this year? I feel like I need to write my priorities down & talk with hubby. We seem to be going in different directions so much of the time. Some times we run away on our anniversary(Feb) & really set goals for the year--maybe we can make that work this year.
The big things coming up this year are that #1 DS graduates from HS & will start college in the fall. That is looming and makes me feel very unsure. I would like to knock off 5-7 lbs by my birthday in March. I don't seem to be loosing much even though I am walking more & logging my food. I am not worrying about it because it is still in the holiday season. I will see in a couple of weeks what is going on. I have maintained so that is good--besides I know muscle weighs more than fat.
Sorry if I am rambling--I am going to bed soon so I can start Jan 2 well rested and ready to start the new year on a good note!

Good morning ladies! I hope everyone had a happy New Year's Eve and Day! I'm "starting over" again today. I just logged my current weight and waist & hip measurements. I'm really going to concentrate on logging everything I put in my mouth and drinking my water today. I will start exercising tomorrow. I'll still get some exercise in today. We're going to take the kids to the soccer field at the park to ride their bikes. I'll get lots of exercise running behind Samantha!
Here's to 2010! :drinker:0 -
hi amy! glad you're back! i feel the same way--#s keep moving up b/c of all the junk i eat.
altogether for 2010--i need to learn to stay within my calorie "budget" and my $ budget. that is probably my biggest mental challenge! i'm not so good at staying in the box and following thru. but i gotta think like trish--i am a sahm, i am a machine!
i'm dressed to work out so off to it! hope you all have a great morning. aren't long weekends the best! :happy:0 -
Thanks Stacey! I also just updated my exercise ticker, and I'm having dh take a pic of me this afternoon to update my profile pic.
Oh, and Stacey, thank you for the different ideas for bedtime. DH usually helps with the baths, the problem with that one is when he has to work late. However, there were several ideas there that I hadn't thought of. And please feel free to give me any advice . . . ever. If I post a frustration or venting, I'd love any advice I can get. :flowerforyou:
Well, off to check the dryer!0 -
Make healthy choices for yourself, and make them easy ones! Start by raiding your fridge with a trash bag. Throw out all the crappy food. Rinse & repeat for cupboards & pantries & any secret stashes. Your budget will fall in to place right behind it when you go shopping by not purchasing any new junk food.
Although I must say I am a little hypocritical. Half the time I buy fun, yummy foods for Grace, because I know I'm going to end up eating them, LOL.
Hmmm... add 1 more resolution to my New Year-- get over my paranoia of wasted food. When I throw food in the garbage that Grace thew on the floor, or refuses to eat, I don't see food going into the garbage. No, no. I see dollars and dimes. Instead of throwing our money away, I end up picking at what Grace won't finish on her plate. Yeah, I have issues.
NOW DRINK YOUR WATER!0 -
I once had someone tell me to think of the food on the kid's plates as garbage, as that is where it is going anyway. I don't do well with that, but if I hurry and get it into the garbage before I pick at it too long I do much better. I also don't like to waste food--but I don't seem to see the money going into the garbage. I need to just stop buying so much...I am a food hoarder. I buy much more than can be eaten in the timeframe it stays good. I am going to work on that. :flowerforyou:0
-
thanks trish! i know i need to toss the junk--but i just CAN'T/WON'T. i'm not there yet. a year later and i still can't part with it. :frown:
yet, i have no problem throwing out the kids' food bits. i just tell myself it's contaminated/germy and thus yukky. no way am i eating that.
if it is a constant problem, maybe put less on their plates and then refill as necessary. they really have such little tummies.
for ex, i put like 3 bits of chicken or 2 mini meatballs or 3 green beans. that way if they don't finish or don't like, i'm not annoyed that they wasted MY food. make sense?
amy, i'm glad i could help. it's so much easier for me to talk a good game than to execute one.
anyway, you ladies are the greatest! you always have such wise words and encouragement. that's why i keep coming back!0 -
I just did 30 day shred...ouch! I'm already sore! But it burned almost 150 cals...yay!!
Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement and motivation for 2010. This is OUR year to shine, drop the pounds, and change our habits to become the best mommies we can be!0 -
It's hard not to look at wasted food as wasted money. Especially when you're on a tight budget. That's something I need to work on too!
Hopey - Good job on the 30 day shred!
We took the kids to the park to ride bikes, but it was so cold that after 5 minutes, my daughter's fingers were turning blue. We forgot gloves. :grumble: :noway: She told us maybe we should wait until Spring to go riding again. I didn't eat well (mostly breakfast & snacks) and I didn't exercise, but I did drink 6 cups of water. Not my goal of 8, but much better than I've been doing. My goal for tomorrow is 8 cups of water & walking at least half a mile.
Have a great night!0 -
Happy New Year, ladies!
As for the leftover food on the kids' plates, I used to struggle with the same thing you're mentioning -- either worrying about the waste, or finishing it myself. But now I use a 2-pronged approach, and it has been working for me for over a year.... (1) only put a tiny bit of food on their plates (as suggested by stacey!) and refill if needed, and (2) have someone else clear the table and scrape the plates... removing all temptation and opportunity for picking at it. I know it's hard to do #2 if you only have little ones... but if you have older kids, they are more than capable of clearing the plates (so are spouses!)
I'm a little panicked.... my treadmill BROKE the other night (with me ON it! Scary!) So I'm trying to think of ways I can exercise more throughout the day. Right now, workout videos are not an option (no room in my 10X10 office to workout!) and we don't own a TV. And as for walking outside in the neighborhood, well, our neighbors let their pitbulls run loose, and I'm a little afraid of them. Soooo... I've been doing more/extra housework to burn more calories. I hope it's enough. At least my house is cleaner.
Have a lovely Sunday!
OH -- My name is Connie. Forgot to mention that before! LOL!0 -
Aww, Connie, sorry your treadmill broke! I'd be afraid of the pitbulls too! Good luck getting in your exercise!0
-
hi ladies! well, i've consumed all my calories today and it's only after lunch! will def get the workout in. gonna do the ballet dvd today and maybe try a new stretching one. also working on cleaning the house. vacuuming done, laundry in progress, need to mop next.
connie--lots of people do youtube videos or get dvds from library and do in your computer. as for space--the leslie sansone walk at home videos uses a minimum of space and easy on your joints. it definitely helped me lose the pounds last year. you can also jump rope and do pushups, wall sits, lunges, use soup cans for wts, jumping jacks, put the music on and dance. hope at least some of these suggestions are helpful.
hope you all have a great sunday! check in!0 -
I confess to being an ungrateful wife. Hubby is cooking dinner. Now, normally this man can really cook! I let him do most of the cooking on the weekends because he makes yummy food, and he enjoys doing it. However, tonight he's making a roast. I don't like his roasts or the way he makes them. They just taste blech to me. I just feel bad/ungrateful. I'm having an ensure instead. I had the roast & potatoes logged in my diary for about 800 calories. I soldiered through my workout halfheartedly, when I decided to tell hubs that I didn't want dinner. Now I have 600 calories to eat, but not really hungry for it.
Anyway, I ramble. I just wanted to get off my chest that I felt kinda ungrateful for hubby's hard work. I feel better now.0 -
Trish, sorry you feel ungrateful, hopefully hubby isn't to upset.0
-
Connie I'm sorry to hear that your treadmill broke. Could you maybe do some running in place, butt kicks, or jump rope? Jumping jacks are also a great calorie burner. I hope you can get it fixed/replace it soon.
Trish that's so sweet of your hubby to cook dinner for you guys. Was he upset when you told him you weren't going to eat it? Ensure sounds good, but I've never had one. I've heard they're yummy though.0 -
I tried to get him to make it in the slow cooker, making the suggestion yesterday & he got kinda peeved at that. He wanted to know why he couldn't just cook it his way & I told him flat out I don't like the way it tastes when he roasts it in the oven. That seemed to hurt his feelings, but he didn't seem to care when I told him today I didn't want it.
Ensure is awesome. I've tried Slim Fast, Boost, and Ensure. Ensure, by far, has been the best. I have a chocolate one. They only have chocolate and vanilla at my store, but I know there are other flavors out there. I wish I could try them.0 -
I ended up eating back 1/2 of my calories. I must confess it's been a long time since I felt so emotionally full! For whatever reason, all the food today made me feel... HAPPY.
I'm not starving myself, but it's not often I feel this emotionally full from what I've eaten. KWIM?
I even had ICE CREAM! I only went over on sugar today. I should probably finish my water. I can't remember if I'm on 90 or 120.0 -
Hi ladies! I've had a pretty good day. I got in a 1/2 mile walk and drank my 8 cups of water.
My family hit a milestone today. My Great Pyrenees "puppy" turned 13. We never thought she would live this long.0 -
