Dealing with Girl's nights?

Girls in their 20's especially, how do you deal with girl's night? lastnight I left work with a clear will to avoid alcohol and snacks. I was more concerned with the drinks because there were triples that night on sale, etc. anyways next thing im writing this after a perfect day, followed by a couple hours of drinks leading me to be like -800 calories. It's not worth it anymore but honnestly its like I get sucked in every time! how is it possible to even go out with other girls or for a night on the town without drinking or eating crap! It's really hard because you can't control others' minds/will, only your own. and mine ends up following them like: "oh hey, that sounds fun, do what shes doing, screw it!"

I just go for it. I probably only go out with my girls once a month or once every 6 weeks. We like sushi or Mexican food so... I do take it really easy on the calories for breakfast/lunch and just deal with being a little hungry.. but yeah, I get into the margaritas or saki bombs, fish tacos, Las Vegas rolls.. mmmm. It's a huge, huge treat to myself and yeah, it takes me a couple of days of water to get the bloat off, lol.

I have the same problem, it's just too tempting!! I find that gin and slimline tonic helps keep calories low - a single is 56 calories :) or volunteer to be the designated driver, just relax and enjoy a sober night and your girl friends will no doubt be grateful to save money on taxis! At the end of the night, if you're not drunk you probably won't be tempted by greasy food because you can see how gross it actually looks!

It is true if you dont drink you wont get as tempted. as tempted to keep drinking or eat. You can always arrive full- have a drink or 2 and stop. Or arrive full dont drink- be the DD. Or eat no more than 3 or 400 calories leading up to your night then its not as bad of an overage. Of course some extra cardio or extra long work out the next day may ease your mind (and body!) as well.

I have a pool date today- we're all being mindful so it will be easier - however - I do not look forward to the first time out with friends where I will have to choose. Im on a month long streak of good choices at each meal and so dont want to break my flow.

    Good luck to you!

tell me about it! i'm leaving in a few hours for girls' weekend! shoot, this is gonna be hard. i'm going to try to stick to plain cocktails instead of beer, and really REALLY resist late night eating/snacking. i find that the eating after a few cocktails does me in worse than the cocktails themselves. i'm also bringing my kicks - maybe i can convince at least one of them to go for a run tomorrow morning?

How often do you go out like this? Because if it's not very often I don't see why you have to abstain from drinking if you think it will spoil your fun. We do only get to live once! When I know I have a night like this coming up I make sure I do more exercise in the days leading up to it, drink more water and try to have a calorie deficit of around 100 calories per day to try and absorb some of the blow I'll take on the night out. I can't drink spirits, I'm a pint of cider kind of girl so its not like I'm going easy on the booze calories either. But it works for me, and I've not put any weight back on as a result of it yet. I may not lose, but at least I'm not gaining.

I have a good time. I will only be 21 once. I will cherish these years of my 20s always and will look back on my life knowing that I had fun and was still successful in earning and maintaining a hot bod.

I do girls night ALL THE TIME...luckily, it usually involves just gathering at one person's house and hanging, not going out to bars ('cause we're all old). It's really hard sometimes...they want to order chinese, and I'm stuck with the steamed veggies, or...stuff like that. I get around it though by making sure that if we're ordering food, there's something on the menu that I can order that won't totally wreck my progress. I have 1/2 calorie rum if we're going to do drinks. I just try to plan ahead as much as possible. And some nights, I go for the pizza and don't worry too much about going over.
  • ENJOY YOURSELF! It's one night. BUT I go for low cal drinks, TRY to portion control and order healthy stuff. Salads ( no cheese), chicken, etc. Skinny margaritas are fabulous! I usually order jack and diet though...or have some shots..ugh..yea, it can get crazy lol

I order a shot of vodka with a glass of ice, fill it up with my own (carried in) Crystal Light. I still, personally, generally keep it at a 2-3 drink max pretty much always. Every now and then I might have more than that... And I also try to plan ahead for it if I know I'll be drinking, and allow for extra calories. As far as the food part, that's hit or miss and I have no real advice other than what's all ready been stated, go there full, etc.

This is also such a struggle for me!!! The alcohol is what leads to more and more calories lol Its impossible for me to drink and not crave some sort of bad food and lose my willpower. Im dealing with the same thing tonight, the best thing (for me anyway) to do is to figure a game plan - I have two vodka seltzers with lime and draaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggg theeeeemmmmm outttttttttt. If i finish early I have seltzer with lime so noone says "why arent you drinking with us?!" (it looks like alcohol) I also make room for those calories and only those and enter them beforehand. I would say one day wont hurt but it usually leads to me being more lax about dieting the next day and/or not exercising. I look foreward to the day when I have the disicipline for it to be easy! :)

I only go out about once a month, but I tend to end up having about 8 shots of whiskey with mixers. I've lowered my calorie intake from that by switching to diet coke. I assume that I'm going to have at least that, enter it for the day and work my other meals around it, but I don't sweat it if I go over. My attitude now is "It's only one day a month, meh, so what?" I also do lots of dancing, generally having a good time and looking like a fool, so that burns some extra calories too

I went out last night, and I actually ended up netting around 1000 cals for the day, which wasn't my intention at all... I overestimated how much I would drink and underestimated how much a few hours of dancing / looking like a fool would burn lol. I even didn't buy anything from the takeaway because I thought I didn't have any calories left for it - doh! Oh well... I had a great night with some great friends and that's all that matters

If it's planned, and you don't want to DD or refrain. eat the minimum going into it. A couple eggs for breakfast and a salad w/ tuna for lunch should only be about 500 calories.

Bacardi and diet coke, or get your drinks straight so you can't/won't drink them as fast. lol If I order a neat whiskey it takes 3x as long to consume, baby sips.

You can order moderately healthy food, don't go for fried foods, uber carbs or pure starches. Have a grilled chicken sammy no cheese or mayo, or sashimi, or fajitas. >:)

Honestly, I have to go with out...alcohol, and what I like best, BEER just don't go with losing weight. I quit drinking for a whole year because I was so dedicated to losing weight, I lost 30 lbs but here I am again, gained it all back and than some...I tried quiting this time, and it only lasted 3 months...so now I say "okay, 2 drinks, and that's it!" either beer or a mixed drink. When I'm drunk I forget about the consequences until the next day ;)
But I DO agree with the person two above me, if you only do it once a month or once every 6 wks, GO FOR IT! Live a little :)

I agree - if it doesn't happen too often and you're within your calories most of the rest of the time, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Your weight might stall for a bit (or even go up a bit due to water retention) but in the long run these nights shouldn't have that much impact.

If you can, plan for it. Get a great workout in and eat really well for the few days before and especially on that day - and be sure to get right back on plan the next day (sometimes that's the hardest part). Get some high protein foods in so that you'll feel full and not be as tempted to eat. I know how it is, that's my biggest downfall with drinking too...get a buzz on and all of a sudden, eating lots of bar food or junk food doesn't sound like THAT bad of an idea, especially if you can justify it by dancing some of the calories off. :)

Another option is to have a night in with the girls instead. Plan for some yummy but healthy snacks and mix your alcohol with diet soda, light juices or diet mixers to keep the calories low. You'll spend a lot less money that way too!

P.S. forgot another trick for drinking when you're out - for every alcoholic drink, have one non-alcoholic drink to keep you from getting too buzzed and being more susceptible to those temptations. Preferably water but if your friends are going to razz you, go with a diet soda or seltzer water so it looks like you're still having a drink.

Like a lot of people all ready said , you try and plan for it saving some calories for going out. If you can't or couldn't plan for the night out then try flavored liquors with water or liquor and diet sodas. I like Bourbon on the rocks or if I'm feeling fancy a Manhattan ( which when I get a night out I always feel fancy lol) . Also you could ask for a drink menu/ ask the bartender about special drinks.. A lot of places are doing "skinny" version of drinks these day. Also have light versions of beer and just wine isn't a bad option either . As far as snacking goes ,pick foods that are most satisfying in the smallest quantities. Like maybe potato skins but maybe with out the sour cream or butter. Or if they have wings, see if you can just get some carrots and celery . I like to get the sauce on the side to dip my veggies in . I can get that spicy wing flavor without eating deep fried chicken. If you have the calories or don't mind going over eat/ drink what you want, this was just some ideas :-)

I hear ya, I'm going to one tonight and I know the wine will be flowing. As far as food, I plan on bringing shrimp cocktail to help me stay away from the cheese and crackers!

I eat a LOT of veggies and low calorie filling foods that day so I'm not particularly hungry but I'm running at a low calorie total when I get there. I alternate alcoholic drinks and water so I don't drink so much and I split a meal or order healthy-ish apps to share. You can also ask for drinks made with seltzer to cut the calories on mixed drinks.

Going out tonight, as a matter of fact. On TOP of going out for lunch with friends. I'm just going to enjoy the day and not worry about it. I don't do it often (maybe once every 3 months), so I plan to enjoy myself!

I partied a lot when younger. Those days I didn't have to worry about calories, etc. Looking back, it seems stupid to think it's so important to go out so often. Alcohol never made anyone richer, more charming, a better partner, etc. It is a waste of money, (although I did have fun back then).
  • I try to drink vodka waters with lots of lemon. It keeps you hydrated, and way less calories and sugar. As for the food part...just get a small app size plate and put what you want on it, then have the waitress take it away as soon as you are done with what you think is acceptable. That way you won't pick.

I drink Vodka with club soda and a lime OR just have soda water ... you can even put soda water in wine with some ice and drink that slowly.

I try to be sensible with the food and enjoy my cocktails. This is my life and I'm going to enjoy it. It probably slowed down my weight loss but I still get to be me.

If I know that I have a *girls night* or something planned for say Wed. night--I'll work out on Sun. Mon., and Tues. and only eat back NO MORE than half of my exercise calories. That way on Wed. night even if I'm technically "over"--which I still log because I don't give a crap whether someone gives me a bad comment or not--for the week I'm not really *over*. Also--I stick to one strong drink like a long island or a choc. martini or something big that will be good for the whole night---no shots or beer or anything like that. Maybe wine. Hope that helps!
  • Just exserize like crazy that morning. I'll get up a 5 and run a few miles and while I'm in office do 10-20 Mins of jumping jacks one at at time throughout the day and walk on my lunch break. If I'm starving I'll just eat something super healthy and plain. Then I have no qulams about that night.:drinker:

I am in my 20s and don't have girls' night out because I don't have any girlfriends :( but I have a husband and we have tonnes of guy friends. When we do go out with friends and their dates I tend to drink (not just one) and then I can't get the weight off. For this reason recently, I have banned myself from partying for a while until I have more control.
