while looking for another old post, I came across this one. I too have had many of these. I had one drained once and it came back the next day, even though it was bandaged.
Now I just have my husband hit it. I don't have the courage to hit myself.....I never hit it hard enough.
I get them from curling my hands under my chin while I sleep.......if I stop doing that , I stop getting them. But yes...sometimes when bad enough.....you need to see a surgeon.

My sister had one, and she did the "book method" a bunch of times but it kept coming back. She eventually had surgery to remove it, and I think it's been ok since...

I have one on top of my left wrist. Sometimes it can make working out painful, but I am normally able to push through it.

Talked to my doctor about it and she suggested I just leave it, unless it got in the way of normal activites. Normally it is gone for months at a time once it pops (although sometimes its only gone for weeks), normally pops through working out or something else. It always goes away though.

I think I shall just live with it. Even if you get it drained it can come back, and through surgical removal it can also come back, although it is a small chance.

I've had one that's come and gone since I was about 12. By the time I had it looked at in my adulthood, it required surgery and it's never been the right time. I did yoga for years with one hand flat and the other one with my palm off the floor.

I had one on the inner side of my wrist. It eventually went away on it's own and never came back.

I had one many years ago. Instead of draining it I had it removed. Very easy surgery. In & out the same day. Not much recovery time. It has never returned nor caused me anymore trouble. If they drain it, it can fill up again. They are totally benign, so that isn't a concern.

I have one, but have never had anything done to it. It used to be painful but it hasn't hurt in a couple months so I have just left it alone. My Sister in law had one on the back of her hand and had it removed but her's came back... as long as mine doesn't hurt I'm leaving it alone :-)

Yes and it would hurt to do push ups and since it was on my writing hand I did not want to risk surgery. The doctor drained it and added some cortisone (which hurt like a motherf**) but it was worth it because it has not come back, and now my push ups have improved YAY!!

I had one on my wrist for years. A chiropractor friend finally told me what it was and suggested the "hit it with a book" approach. I just bit it and it promptly went away, lol.

I had one on the inside of my left wrist for a long time as a kid, but it went away on its own. My mother didn't want me to get it drained because she'd had one drained as a kid and didn't want to put me through the pain. So... I guess it hurts to get dealt with.

I've had them. I'd hit it with a book and it'd go away. It came back a few times but it's been gone for over 10 years now.

I had one removed from the edge of my left wrist in 2010 - it was growing and was hurting me to type or do anything. The surgery was easy, but I had to wear a brace up to my elbow for two weeks & that was as painful as the cyst was.

Yeah girlinahat - my doctor won't remove it - nor drain it - nor hit it. lol.

He recommended leaving it and if I really wanted something done he wanted to refer me to an orthapedic surgeon - he said I'd have a general anesthetic.

But that's all too much for me.

So although I'm not happy, I'm leaving it alone for now.
Go see a hand specialist, a GP will never want to do anything for something benign and cosmetic

I've had one on the back of my wrist for 10+ years. It gets larger and smaller - probably based on use of my wrist, but only bothers me when it's particularly large (which hasn't been the case for a long time).

I'd rest your wrist for a little while to see if the pain goes away. If the pain continues go to the doctor for treatment. Unfortunately, after treatment, it's not uncommon for them to reappear.

They're annoying, but at least they're harmless.

My mom is a bodybuilder and she developed one. It just kept getting worse and worse. I would recommend going to the doctor sooner rather than later.

She had to get cortisone shots in hers. Ouch!

I had one a few years ago on the back of the hand right above the wrist. Doctor said to just wait it out with surgery being the next option to drain it if it didn't go away. It went away on its own in a few months. No book necessary

Same here. I had a very large one on the inside of my wrist. It eventually shrank, but there is still a hard knot about the size of a pea in that spot. Not sure what that's about, though. I currently have one on the top of my right foot and on the top of my left shoulder next to my collar bone.

Had one doing lots of pushups. Went away after I wasn't doing that when I hurt my back. Saw the Dr. and they wouldn't remove it. I just decided to name it. Fred will be back when I start doing pushups again.

I did, on the top of my wrist. My doctor did the book method for a while but I eventually had to have it surgically removed.
