Cheat days work best for my mom too. For me it has been doing everything in moderation all the time.0 -
Eating the foods I still like but in moderation and allowing myself a cheat day (or two) has worked much better than doing an entire week of calorie deficit. Eating a moderate deficit works for me more than a higher one, but I think that might be because MFP tracks my calories burned less than I actually burn (I have a FitBit which keeps a more "real" track of calories burned)
Treating every week as a new goal rather than waiting however long it takes to get to my ultimate goal (and bemoaning that length of time while getting depressed over less successful weight loss weeks) works really well too.0 -
Walking... And then walking more.
I hated this, but did it until it has became an addiction.
Between that and cutting the crap outta my diet, I'm a happy man.0 -

 loving this!!!!0 -
Portion control for sure -- tracking my intake and actually SEEING it in black and white. I had no idea the DRESSING I was pouring on my salads everyday was loaded with calories (or that the shredded parm I love so much was so low!!)
Tracking and being aware 6 days a week makes my cheat meal all the more enjoyable!!0 -

you have only one meal hun! i have an open day! 3 full meals! one day won't make me gain weight! i won't eat an elephant :bigsmile:0 -
Watchign my portions and working out. I still eat pizza but I go for the veggie w/ grilled chicken or I'll get a small fry from a fast food place instead of the xtra large. Plus I let myself have a meal or a day a week to 'let go' and eat w/o worrying about it...and I still log it so I can see that I have that 'bad' day looking at me.0

also green tea has done a good job!0

 yes yes i do the same too! i keep logging my bad habbits so that i see them and see their calories0

so far, everything in moderation is what works for me. I stay under my calories, and yes I do eat out and eat "snacks" at time. Mind you, I am going from eating probably 3500-4000 calories a day and 7-8 canned diet sodas a day (I am 307lbs, 11lbs lost) before I started MFP 3 weeks ago...I have tried "to lose weight" before, and failed because I feel like I went too hard, too fast.. depriving myself of a lot of foods that I enjoyed, and then just got "fed up" and gave up.
This time, I gave up soda on July 5th, have only drank water with lemon, unsweet tea, and the occasional cup of black coffee. Then started watching my calories...I eat right at 1700 calories a day, but I don't restrict how I eat those calories.
Ultimately, I want to work up to eating clean, but I can honestly say right now - I would give up if I tried now. My mindset is not as strong as what it needs to be to eat clean. So, I am working into baby steps.
I also am doing some sort of cardio exercise every day for atleast 20 minutes - whether it be walking, zumba, stationary bike, etc...
Right now, that is what is working for me - and of all the times I have tried to lose weight, I feel like this is the "most normal" or "easy" time I've done it.0 -

i hear ya hun! i have done all that b4 !!!! but still didn't lose weight! but here at the same time i joined MFP 20 days ago! and only lost 3 kgs honestly i feel kinda sad! but trying to keep going on and not to give up! this is y iam asking what has worked for u to find new ideas0 -
As far as what sticks, it's doing research into what is actually healthy from both body fat and overall perspectives, incorporating what works for me from that, and doing strength training with some cardio.
I'm not somebody that can justify half assing anything I do to myself, so for me, I have to be all in.
I really am fine and love how I feel when I'm "all in", and I kept that going for 3 years when I was in grad school before I got sick for 3 months and lost my routine.0 -
