What counts as water?

Options
I once had a Doctor tell me that if it was made with water then it counts as water. So... I would like to know if others count coffee, tea, etc as water?

Is there any beverage, other than milk, that isn't made from water?

You're going to get different answers on this. As far as what I put in my food journal, I only count actual water, but I think it's okay to count black coffee and plain tea. If you add creamers and sweeteners, I personally wouldn't count it.

They tell me that tea and coffee change how your kidneys function so don't count as water even though they have no calories.

But it's most of what I drink, so who am I to talk?

You can count it however you want, but your body is able to use the water content from beverages and foods, whether they have calories or not, whether they are caffeinated or not.

Everything but milk and alcohol counts toward your daily required fluid intake.

I always thought the eight 8 oz glasses per day rule was on top of whatever water you're getting from food.

This is my rule of thumb, the only thing that counts as water is water. If you want to drink other drinks, that's cool, I do too. But don't count them as your water, just drink more water.
