I am sad

I am so sorry!! We don't always understand how our choices affect other people in our lives!! It's difficult to be a family member of someone who has made bad choices. You are in my thoughts and prayers - be easy on yourself. Cry if you need to, in a couple of days the worst of the ache will be past and you will begin to get back to normal. Remember, It's o.k. to grieve the loss of relationship you are facing. Is he going to be far away?

I don't know how it is in Nevada, but in MO if you are a first time offender(state offenses) you typically only have to serve 15% of your sentence(depending on the severity of the crime/charge, etc). 15% of 2 years is about 3 1/2 months, plus if he did any county jail time prior to his conviction he will most likely get time served and it will be taken off the time he has to serve. For example, if he is sentenced to 2 years(24 months) and he has 2 months county jail time then he only has to serve 22 months, then if he is eligible for 15% or 40% or whatever they usually take it off that. Like I said, it depends on the crime, etc. Keeping n contact is more important than actual visits, 90% families/friends of inmates serving a sentence of 3 years or longer cease communication after 18 months. I have a friend who is a caseworker for the prison systems in MO and she assures me that it is not like HBO's "OZ".
I'm sure the state of Nevada's Dept. of Corrections has a website that has info for friends and families of inmates. Knowledge is power, it might make you feel better to check out what you can so your mind what get the best of you and have a runaway imagination. hang in there, I'm not overly religious, but I do know God does not give us anymore than we can handle:flowerforyou:

I'm sorry to hear your brother got in trouble but I hear that High Desert has fabulous education programs to help your brother when he may need it most. I'm not going to lie, it's going to be rough and as Neome90 said, "in a couple of days the worst of the ache will be past" and hopefully you'll feel better about the situation.

Just keep doing what you're doing keep your mind on the prize and on your brother, it'll make him happy to see the changes you're undergoing on the outside of High Desert as he's making changes in the inside walls.

My little brother (he is 21) has been sentenced to 2 - 8 years in maximum security prison. I totally understand that he has done this to himself and he has to pay for his mistakes. I have been so upset all day, I have hardley eaten at all.

Stay strong and pray that his time in prison will be well spent learning, growing, and changing and when he comes out he'll be a changed person with goals and dreams to live out. =o)

A lot of times when hard times come we don't understand why , or how something like this could have happend to us , but when we look back we see that there was a reason. We learn from the experience, grow closer to family, have more compassion for others in similar situations.....I think it makes us better people.
