It is a set of DVDs by Beach Body. It is extremely challenging, at least to me! A lot of jumping moves. It felt like a return to middle school PE hell, but if you are ready for a challenge this will do it!

yeah, I have found it quite difficult to find any information on it as far as routines and such. Everything I find simply touts the marketing line "great cardio...yada, yada, yada

I'm the first person to call "BS" on infomercials but I swear it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Sometimes I feel like I'm trying to market it myself but seriously it really is the greatest!

It's a series of DVD's. It's broken up into 2 months. You start with a fit test and take it again every 2 weeks so you can measure your progress. Month one is brutal but fun. You do a lot of variations on push up, squats, jumping jacks and ab work. I am half way done with month 1. Can't tell you much about month 2. All I've heard is that it is tougher than month 1 but so worth it. I love Insanity. It is hard but I feel so good when I am done. My husband and I have noticed changes in our moods, sleeping patterns, eating patterns since starting it. I have nothing bad to say about Insanity. It mixes the DVD's up enough that you don't get bored. We borrowed it from a friend. If you know anyone you can borrow it from, I would do that. I don't know many people that don't like it but just in case. Good luck! :drinker:

Month Two is pretty much more of the same except more intense (longer and harder then month one) -- basically the stuff done in month one is the warm-up during the month two dvd's. There is stretching at the beginning (after warm-up) and the end of EVERY DVD -- don't skip the stretching (very important).

There is also a diet plan that comes with it -- they help you figure out your calorie needs, etc. and there are meals that you can choose from.

nothing negative to say about insanity at all. I'm actually doing The Asylum now and love it just as much (if not more).

Asylum?! I've seen pictures of it on Pinterest but I haven't seen any infomercials! Just curious as to how it compares to regular Insanity!

A group of guys I work with can barely get through the warm up, they stop at that point. That's how hard it is.

That's a little surprising. I'm an almost 200 lb 5'4" woman and I can get through the warm ups without stopping. I stop as little as possible during the workout. If I do stop it's for 2-5 seconds and then I'm back in it. It's hard but it's not impossible.
  • isn't it the same thing as that Tony Horton guy? I returned those DVD's in 5 seconds flat because I am dealing with a foot issue. They don't seem to modify enough if you are a newbie. IMO...

Insanity uses only body weight. You can go at your own pace and modify as needed.

How can you modify the cardio piece? I am not allowed to do anything weight-bearing. Can you just do the strength moves to get started?

If you can't do weight bearing then this is not for you. Sorry- didn't realize you couldn't bear any weight. :blushing: You are on your feet for the majority of the workout (if not all of it). Once you are healed I would totally recommend it!

Look up the workouts on youtube and you can see what it's like and whether it'd be a good fit for you. It's definitely intense.

And Tony Horton has nothing to do with Insanity. The dynamo instructor for this program is the very beautiful Shaun T! His abs alone are motivating!!!

How long are the workouts usually? I keep hearing amazing things about them, but they cost so much that I never seriously considered it.

If you can't do weight bearing exercises than you wouldn't be able to do Insanity because its a lot of plyometrics (jump training).

It is an interval training program so its really important to get a heart rate monitor, essentially you need to be able to work hard enough to get your heart rate for the 3 minute interval, and then allow your heart rate to come down briefly for a resp period. Your body responds similarly to weight training with intense interval training, in that your body begin to burn fat. However, its important that you are pushing yourself and a hrm can help make sure you are.

And to the poster that said its surprising that grown men can't get through the workout it could be they are pushing themselves much harder than you are. Insanity is one of those dvd's where you get what you put in. I'm completely exhausted at the end of the warm up, and sometimes I can barely get through, however, my heart rate is through the roof and I"m really pushing on those occassions.

Anyone who has done Insanity will know that "This s*** is bananas!"

    Best. Workout. Ever.

I've been doing it for 3 years. Never gotten bored...in fact, when I see the infomercial on TV, all I want to do is go workout.

I'm always looking for fellow Insanity friends...all welcome...
  • It's a series of DVDs with some stretching and yoga on your recovery day. It's very intense but it REALLY REALLY works and I highly recommend it! It's worth every penny you pay for you. Only one thing though.... you must commit to it and do it every single day!

I did P90 and cardio videos from P90X - they don't even come close to Insanity! Love it!
  • Agree, you can look up videos on Youtube. There are a few success stories/videos as well.

I'm a few days from finishing up. So happy. :D

Perfect reply! Couldn't have said it better!!! High knee, kick jumps or mountain climbers during the warm up and I am DEAD! :)

Month 1 the workouts vary between 38 - 42 minutes. Month 2 they're more like 55+ minutes. Recovery week workout (week 5) is 37 minutes long. I like to know how long each one is so I preview and then write down the duration on my schedule so I keep track of calories burned per minute. Don't laugh I know I'm weird!

I'm 2 days into month 2!! And the person who said the warmups in month 2 are like the workouts of month one is right!! Wow! But my body has changed so much since I started. Modify until you can do more. You WILL see results if you give it your all at every workout!!!

Usually 45 minutes to an hour.

Search string "insanity workout" on Youtube search. You will get an idea of it from there. A lot of testimonials and some people recorded themselves working out.

By far the BEST workout DVD series I’ve done. In week 4 of month one. Last week when I took my measurements I was down 10.5 inches and 3 pounds. It is a hardcore workout, but I love it. I’m dripping in sweat when I’m done & I feel stronger every day. Someone above said something about BS infomercials, I feel the same way about a lot of them, but not this one. I actually still watch the infomercial from time to time (because it’s ALWAYS on) for motivation. I look at the testimonies and thing that will be me soon!

Just to give you a background, I’ve done Tae-Bo, 10 minute trainer, Ripped in 30 & 30 Day Shred this year, but none of them have been as awesome as this!

You beat me to it. I was going to go edit my post to add that if you overexert yourself during the warm up the rest of the workout will be extremely difficult. I push myself during the warm up but I don't drain all my energy because I want to make it through the entire workout. I use it as an actual warm up- a chance to get my body ready for the next 30+ minutes. But by the end of the warm up my heart is pounding and I am completely covered in sweat. By the end of the workout I am a complete puddle! In 2 weeks I have managed to lose almost 2 inches from my waist alone so I must be doing something right.

When we first started my husband went all out during the warm ups and paid dearly for it. He was so out of breath and tired he had a difficult time doing the actual workout. He learned quickly to pace himself better. Unfortunately we don't have a HRM so we can't check our heart rates. Each person needs to go at their own pace. My all out is going to be different from another person's all out. As long as you pace yourself and modify as needed Insanity is doable for a lot of people. If it is your first attempt at exercise or you have an injury, Insanity is probably not for you. If you are looking for a challenge and want to feel incredible (and exhausted!)after each workout, Insanity is totally for you!

Wow, thank you for all that! I have seen enough success stories to be sold- I'm heading over to you tube now!

I'm planning on doing the workouts off you tube, I know its unfair becuase its not making the original makers money but I seriously cant afford the dvds right now... I'm gonna see if anyone I know has them, but if I use youtube, will number one tell me what to do? If there are so many dvds, when do you do each one? I have to admit I am a bit confused- I get that it hard, uses cardio and bw training but I dont understand what workout dvd you do and when?
