I love love Love it, except for the fried part. But I tried this the other day and now I can have fried okra anytime. I get the Picsweet bag of breaded okra, I completely ignore the directions. lay them out on tinfoil spray with a little evoo and garlic salt and pepper toss them, then I bake them at 375 for 20-25 minutes turning halfway through baking. They taste just as good and are crispy too if you let them cook long enough. Screw the directions and enjoy your southern comfort food!

I love fried okra. I haven't had in a very long time (Colorado doesn't know much about southern food). Either Trader Joe's or Whole foods sells dried okra and it is delicious.

    I love the stuff.
It is, however, very unkind to my blood sugars....which I don't really understand why. yes, it's breaded and fried, but there's simply not that many carbs in the breading when all you eat is 1/2 to 3/4 cup of chopped okra.
  • Go great with fried green tomatoes...

Yes! But I don't like too much coating, too gummy. There's a restaurant here in town that does it this way: they take small okra and cut them lengthwise and they are just LIGHTLY breaded... more okra, more surface... garlicky. They are delicious that way. ALSO, I sautee' them in a pan with onions and garlic and EVOO.... just sorta stir-fry till the onions and edges start to caramelize... DELICOUS... try it!!
  • One of my favorite foods. In fact, I was craving some fried okra last weekend, but resisted.
  • LOVE IT!!! thanks for the suggestion. i will try it, sounds so good.

I don't think I've had it fried, but my good Jamaican friend turned me onto it. I love it!

YES. Grew up in Texas, so we had it a lot. They actually sell it as a side at one of my all time favorite chicken joints out there, Chicken Express. I only get to have it once every 2 years when I go to visit family.

Before reading this post I looked up the info on okra (had boiled okra with my lunch), I had no idea that it naturally has sugar - or at least as much as it does.
When I logged it in MFP I noticed the sugar amount so that's why I looked up the nutritional facts on it.
