Anyone else fighting depression and trying to lose weight

I've suffered severe depression for over 4 yrs now .. Not due to my weight, this I have put on due to happy and sad times although the last 3 stone was whilst on medication, I'm proud to say I've been off it now for almost a year. Just about keeping to 1700 cals a day, hit a wall due to injury, heart says give up head says no. I'm sure the scales will give soon. Would love to hear how you get through the down times, my downs are lasting 7-10 days I know I'm not doing as well as I'd like but doing better then I was

  • I don't suffer from depression, but I know that there are several groups on MFP who have members that may be able to relate to you. Here's a couple that I've found:

If you search under "Groups" you will be able to find more. Good luck.

Medication helps me, though the weight gain with most anti-depressants is a risk. So, talk to your MD about those with the fewest side-effects. As for the personal ways to get through, I just make sure that I write down what my goals are for the week, and do my best to achieve them. I also pay less attention to the actual pounds lost than I do to the inches lost/gained in the right places. When I started on MFP I was 225 (maybe more). I'm down to 174 now. I also found a good book called The Depression Cure by Stepehn Ilardi, Ph.D., which I have found to be tremendously useful. Best wishes to you.
