How do you get rid of dark circles under your eyes?

Aveeno makes an anti-fatigue eye treatment that I've been trying. It seems to be making a small difference.0

Thank you so much! I will look for that. I wonder if there is something I am lacking like a vitamin or something that causes them. I take a multivitamin everyday and usually get enough sleep but they won't go away. The make me look 10 years older than I am and hate that! lol0
-
I too have dark circles not caused my lack of sleep...LOL
Anyways, I have not bought it yet, just tried a demo of it....but Mary Kay makes this anti dark circle cream and oh my gosh!! Within 30 seconds of putting some under my one eye, you could totally tell the difference. The difference was HUGE!!!
It's expensive so I have not bought it yet, but I really want to!!!0 -
I have those too, sometimes it looks like I have black eyes - it's quite lucky I wear glasses really so they aren't as noticeable. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, so I'm going to ask about them actually.0

Eating well, drinking enough and sleeping well helps mine. And Sally Hansen's under eye brightener from Carmindy (makeup artist from What Not To Wear) is good for when you don't get all three.

But that is an absolutely TERRIBLE price for it. I've found it for under $9 at Rite Aid or Walgreens.0 -

I have dark circles also. I was told at a spa by a therapist that they get worse if you don't drink enough water.0

My doctor informed me that I have the circles under my eyes because I have low iron. So I periodically take iron pills. Not all the time though because it does stuff you up :noway:0

Mine get like that when I drink or eat foods with cow's milk. Cheese not so bad and even ice cream. Straight white juice and my face looks a mess the next day. Not to mention, I'm doubled over in pain.
So it may not be airborne or skin allergies, it could be food.0 -
I have always had dark circles and to make it worse, it's like my skin has created a channel making it even more noticeable.
Taking allergy medicine helps, if my allergies are acting up the darkness gets worse. Also being Anemic can cause this. Unfortunately I battle both of these and have to always wear foundation to look even half descent when I go out into public.
I use vitamin K cream, and it does help. But I haven't found anything that makes it go away completely. :sad:0 -
Here is a good article about dark circles. This website is good for busting beauty myths. They say that apparently there is not much you can do about dark circles except protect your skin from the sun and use a good cover-up. http://www.cosmeticscop.com/shed-some-light-on-dark-circles.aspx0

Mine almost completely disappeared after I fould out I was allergic to wheat and cut it out of my diet. They told me they were called "allergy shiners" and that food allergies are a huge culprit.0
-
Some dark circles under your eyes are food intolerance that people are unaware of. I have heard of products that help but I have never personally tried them.
Since finding many of the intolerences I personally have they have lightened.0 -
There is an under-eye concealer made by Tarte that will help with puffiness (it works great for that actually), but as far as lightening, I have yet to find anything except covering it up with a good concealer.0

I just saw on the show The Doctors to brew tea, put the tea bag in the freezer and then use the cold used tea bag as an eye compress. The cold and the caffeine constricts the blood vessels and reduces swelling and discoloration. Good luck!0
-
I've had them all my life. Nothing can be done about them. I've just grown to accept them.0

Do you take any allergy medication. Doctor's advised that for my daughter's allergy related dark circles and it helped. She's taking claritin.0

Water is a must! But also you could try some green tea bags soaked in cold water, lay back and place one over each eye. Instead of paying a ton of money for creams...you can buy a box of tea bags for a couple bucks and get results as well! Good luck!
*I am a licensed cosmetologist and this is what I used when I gave facials to clients!0 -
I just throw some concealer on it.
But I wouldnt mind an actual solution.0 -
for me, staying hydrated reduces them the most. i don't have allergies, but i do have dark circles and i think it's also related to sleep.
as for makeup to cover it, i've found that the Bobbi Brown corrector (i use the shade Light Bisque) works amazingly to cover/brighten that area. i've tried loads of high end and drugstore concealers but this has been the best.0 -
hard candy concealer.0

I've dealt with this since I was only 20 or so. I have horrible allergies too. Nothing seems to help other than finding good concealers. Out of the bazillion I've tried, Bare Escentuals concealer and Benefit Boi-ing are the best I've found. Other than that, I know that often dark circles are caused by lack of fat under the eyes, and the thin skin showing the veins underneath. Only solution for that is fat injections.0

Chances are it is due to a food allergy. Wheat or dairy is usually the culprit. It would be worth checking out.0

Honestly you can't get rid of them. They can be hereditary, and get worse with lack of sleep, low iron, and dehydration. There's also something called periorbital hyperpigmentation which is just essentially more melanin is produced around your eyes.
You can use makeup for coverage (I have quite a few tricks) and just keep hydrated. I get them too :c
(I work in the skin care industry and I get this question ALL the time).0 -
For people that have had them all their lives or since they were very young that is because sometimes it is just genetic to have a different coloration to the under eye skin. So, I wouldn't worry about it. Just take care of yourself and your allergies. And don't use any products that are irritating or cause your allergies to get worse.0

Totally agree. I think there is a link between consuming dairy and allergies (the stuffy nose can't breathe kind of allergies). I normally get terrible seasonal allergies and have for many years up until this year when I cut out cows milk. I have hardly had a problem this Summer. I still eat yogurt and cheese sometimes. Cutting dairy down made a significant difference for me.0 -
I have had dark circles all my life. The doctor said that the skin near my eyes is so thin that you can see the capillaries through the skin. So the blood that irrigates the eyes is what actually causes the dark circles. At least in my case.
So far the best remedy I found is to use a concealer. The only one that works for me is MAC Cosmetics. It's quite expensive ($20) but one stick lasts for more than 1 year and I use it every single day. The trick is to choose the right color. Everybody told me to choose a color lighter than my skin but I was unhappy with the result. So I choose the same color of my skin, if not slightly darker and it covers the dark circles perfectly. Even on those days that are so hot and I decide to don't wear any other make-up (that otherwise will melt).
Btw, my husband and I made up a funny name for the dark circles. We call them the panda eyes :laugh:0 -
If I put a cool washcloth on them, the capillaries shrink up. Other than that I use clinique concealer, and loose powder to seal it0

Apart from staying hydrated and making sure that I get my daily iron intake (via diet rather than pills) I have found some vitamin K cream helps a lot.
I use NeoStrata Bionic Eye Cream. As a bloke this is my one 'product'.
Smoking and alcohol is also bad news if you are prone to dark circles, anything that thins the blood or screws around with it generally should be avoided.
My 7 year old gets them too so I'm fairly sure there is some genetics in there too, either that or she is on the *kitten* and sauce0 -
Definitely hereditary, some ethnicities have them more than others. But if you notice they are worse than usual, it's probably an imbalance or allergy of some kind, as many have said already. They can also indicate kidney issues (UTI perhaps?) as well, which ties in to the hydration thing. There is a tasteless supplement powder called D-Mannose that is great for flushing impurities from the kidneys and urinary tract. You just mix a teaspoon or two into a glass of water (while drinking LOTS of plain water as well) for a few days. Otherwise, I second taking an Iron supplement and the Tarte concealer is awesome!0
