Hi Guys!
So its really easy to pop frozen veggies in the microwave in my steamer, and the same with precooked rice, you know the sunrice 2 minute rice, but I would rather take the time to cook it all properly if i am loosing nutrients in the frozen veggies, and if what I have heard about the rice (that is packed with sugars and really bad for you) is true.
Who can bust these rumours for me, and help me out!
Thanks :-)

frozen veggies are flash frozen very shortly after being picked so they generally have more nutrients than those fresh ones that traveled 18 days to get to your grocer then sit in your fridge for 2 more days.
as for your rice does the nutrition label mention sugar or any sugar like substances? If it does just hunt for one that doesn't include that or cook a pot of rice on sunday and use that all week. i like the precooked rice because it's convenient and makes more sense for me than cooking two pots of rice as the hubs does not eat brown rice

Like Impy84 said, frozen vegetables can actually be more nutritious than fresh. You still lose out some on texture, but the nutrients are there due to the short time between harvesting and freezing. I pretty much always keep frozen broccoli on hand; it's easy to incorporate into meals.
Rice is actually really easy to cook in the microwave so you don't have to rely on the precooked stuff (which I think is actually pretty gross, but that's me). Check the manual for your microwave, but for mine, I just put in the rice (1 cup rice to 2 cups water) in a covered container (lid not completely sealed so it can vent), do 5 minutes on high, 15 minutes on half-power, and then let it sit in there for 5 minutes once done. Perfect every time.0 -
Frozen vegetables are good. As the others above have said, they can sometimes be more nutritious!
I don't eat 2 minute rice though, just doesn't taste the same and rice is dead easy to cook anyway. Just have to wait a little longer!I stick to whole grain brown rice though, it's better for you.

Thanks everyone - I got it - Frozen veggies YES -
Precooked rice NO!0 -
For rice I will cook up a big pot of brown rice and then put it on a baking sheet and freeze it in a flat layer until it's cold, not rock solid, then I'll just break it apart and have my own "quick" rice. Pop it in the microwave with a splash of water and a bit of plastic wrap to steam it and you are good to go.0
