Under 1,000 Calories

Lately I've been noticing that, without even trying, I eat around 800-1000 calories a day. And this has been going on all month. I know it's apparently bad to go under 1200 and blah blah... but should I really keep eating if I am genuinely not hungry and not craving? I'm torn because health is honestly very important to me, but i don't want to be counter productive either because I do have a few pounds left to lose. I would be scared that I have some hidden medical condition but I have had 2 blood tests this year, a gyno check up and a general checkup so I'm guessing I'm fine? Also I take multivitamins daily.

Thoughts on this????

For reference I am:
20, female, 5'2", 110 lbs

Thanks!

if you aren't hungry, i don't see the problem
  • Hi Amandaseawolf,

I've also heard that it's not healthy to be under 1200 calories on a daily basis. As long as you're not doing it everyday, I don't think it would be a problem.

However, from personal experience, I lose more weight if I eat enough to meet my daily calorie goal, than if I am under my daily calorie goal. That seems kind of back words to me... ;) But it's how our body's work; they need food to keep going, and if they don't get enough, they will go into starvation mode, which can make you gain more weight rather than lose.

I would suggest adding in more snacks to increase your daily caloric intake to at least 1250.
    Best of luck!

You are pretty petite so you don't require quite the same number of calories as a lot of us do. I would be worried at 1000 calories that you aren't getting adequate nutrition. (daily vitamin) But if even one day/week you eat out you'll end up averaging over 1200 so you're probably ok listening to your body.
  • I would maybe add some higher fat / calorie snacks - just so you're up to your daily allotment? Honestly, I would ask my dr!

i eat 2 tbsps (16g of fat) of peanut butter daily actually!!

hey, maybe thats why im always so satisfied? lol
  • I agree with Carmentex, eating as close to recommended cal helps lose weight faster :)
maybe try and add in nuts or avocado, they would help up your calories without having to eat too much more, or a shake.
