My protein is always under and I am interested in protein shakes, but I was wondering if that is something that I don't need at this point since my exercise only consists of running around 2 miles a day (no strength training). Would adding a protein shake be overkill? If not, any suggestions on a good one for my needs?

MFP sets protein intake way, way too low. Check around to verify this fact. If you are not getting at least 1 gram per lean pound of bodyweight you are under what you need to maintain muscle while losing weight. Check out bodybuilding.com for more complete info. :)

I am always over my protein goal by 25%, but pretty even with calories, carbs and fat. Is that ok?

You can get enough protein without protein powder. It's a convenience food. If you're having trouble hitting your macros, it's an awesome, easy fix, but it's not required.

Most sources I've seen recommend 30% protein during weight loss to minimize lean mass loss. USDA guidelines are closer to 20%, which is why that's the default setting here.
