Someone thought we should all experience what it would be like to eat grass?0
-
I'm not a fan of it, but I swear it's in every salad I get!0
-
I always pick that crap out!0

So much endive hate here.0

I always pick that crap out!
Me, too. It's like a friggin tree in an otherwise lovely salad. It's never in small pieces, either. You take it out and it's a giant cascading weed.
I have strong feelings about it, apparently.0 -
I do not need this all up in my salad. Back off endive, back off.0

It cleans your colon.

It must act as a dust mop going through your colon....sweeping all the crud out with it!!!! :bigsmile:0 -
Hmm. I like it. I think. I'm pretty open to greens.0

I love it and actually grow it in my veggie garden. It is a little bitter though and I couldn't stand it as a kid. It's nice with just lemon juice and olive oil and yes it's very good for you.
It's hell trying to wash the mulch out of it though!0 -
buy a head of lettuce.
problem solved, you're welcome.0 -
That's actually not endive... it's frisee. I find it delish0

I am laughing histerically at this thread! I have always wondered the same thing! hahahahahaha0

This. It has it's place when it's mixed with the right items. It has a natural bitterness so, unlike most lettuce and greens you find in restaurant salads, it actually brings a flavor of it's own to the mix.
I think my favorite usage of it was at a restaurant in a panzanella salad that came with the fried pumpkin appetizer and it was very lightly dressed with a sweet mustard vinaigrette. OMG, so good! My husband HATES mustard and even he was devouring it.0 -
It can be called curly endive or frisee.0
-
Thanks. Now I'm going to have nightmares.0

Hahaha this is an interesting thread
But honestly I really love greens... even this one. It's called frisee or curly endive. It has a slightly bitter taste so I do understand why others don't like it.0 -
It's too bitter for me. I always pick it out and make the Boy eat it.0

It gives the dish "volume".0

Hahaha! So glad I randomly decided to click on this thread  The cascading weed and chia pet comments are right on! I usually just eat it with something that has a lot of flavor to cover it up ..0

Frisee (free-zay) curly in French! It's not bad, just try it--very good for you! Wouldn't want to eat a whole big salad of it, but mixed up it gives a nice crunchy bite, bitter green. I'm partial as I have a Bichon Frisee puppy, French for curly *****...0
