What calculation are you all doing? Those numbers aren't the average BMI of the state, they are the percentage of the state's residents whose BMIs are in the obese ranges.2

Whew! I had a hard time believing the average BMI of Colorado was 20%!2 -

BMI is a useless calculation. It is over 100 years old and just isn't a practical way of measuring. The best way is BF %'s
Given example of why it is useless. I was 200-205 in the Army with a BF of 15-17% If you use my height of 5'7" and calculate my BMI it would put me in the obesity range.
