Have any of you participated in a Tough Mudder run? If so, what is the best way to train for it?

I haven't done one yet but on the website, they have this great circuit training prep calendar

I'm thinking of the one in October in NJ since I'm a New Yorker. Are you doing one soon?

I've done similar races, doing a TM next year.

Make sure you've got the run distance down, then it's a lot of upper body strength. I like push/pull free weight exercises.

Run. Burpees, chinups, pushups, hindu squats, lunges and run some more. I also do lots of monkey bars for grip and hand strength. Incorporate sprints & hill sprints in your running as well.

I'm doing the North West UK event in November. I've done a couple of smaller (10K), similar events in the past. I get really bored running, so these are a great way to break up the monotony!

The prep I've done in the past is lots of running, leg strength work and bouldering. Bouldering is great for upper body, grip and core strength. I'm a fairly big guy so I'm not ideally built for hanging off stuff, but my grip strength and endurance has improved massively as a result.
