enough is enough

I have the tendency to go back and get more food when i know im already full, Im really selfish, How do I stop myself cause its really a bad habit. please help?

    Only prep the food you need so there are no leftovers. If you want something more eat a raw carrot. If you don't fancy that you are not hungry.

    Try to drink a glass of water and weight for 15 minutes, when you want to eat more. I am sure you will not eat after that. Imagine your poor stomach ready to explode.
  • Carry around a large bottle of water, 2liter or something and commit to not eating anything within an hour of eating a meal. If you feel hungry just drink loads of water. Its all about training your body and your mind. breaking the habit.

    So when you go back try going for a glass of water instead. Its maybe the action of going back for something that needs to be broken, if you see what I mean. A friend of mine stopped having a cup of coffee as she realised that evrey time she had a cup she had a biscuit or two to go with. Its about breaking the pattern.

    I know that feeling well. I'm afraid that I have to agree. Have some water, it will fill you up. It's amazing. Thirst can mask itself as hunger and drowsiness. Good Luck!

    It may just be because you are bored. Try going for a walk, doing some kind of light workout, finding something to do with your hands (drawing, knitting, crochetting, folding laundry even...anything to keep your hands busy) and then if you still feel like you have to eat something, fo for a small handful of cheerios of frosted mini wheats or something like that...then brush your teeth and go to bed. :) I hope that you got a tip that will help you from one or more of us. Kicking extra snacking out of your life is a huge step in the right direction!
  • Water, nuts are good too. They digest slowly. It's some extra calories, but so far hasn't really effected my diet.

    Do you by chance have ADHD? If so are you on any meds for it? I only ask becasue my daughter does and I asked her dr about her doing this same thing and he told me when her meds wear off (right around dinner time) she can't control her self- he suggested giving her an extra small dose of meds an hour before dinner to carry her through the night. There is also something with some people who have had food with held as a child/teen that they have to get extra food, expecially if it is the last of something (daughter does this too thanks to her step-mom).

    I also second what everyone else is saying about drinking water- I have always gotten my 8 cups a day in but since deciding to lose weight I am up to 12-16 a day and have noticed when I am "hungry" even when I shouldn't be if I drink 1-2 cups of water and wait 10 mins I am no longer hungry.
  • Thanks everyone for replying! I'll try drinking atleast 2 glasses of water before I eat my dinner and try to get myself distracted so I keep out of the kitchen. Hope this works!
